Done in 1992, Poem 5 is a very stylized take on the kanji for woman女. Maki did many, many versions of woman. All of them are interesting, most of them striking. To me, this dramatic rendering strays the furthest from the actual character. Daniel Tretiak called this a Square Woman. This was done using the silkscreen process; it is not an embossed woodblock print. It measures 11.5in x 11.5 in.

I offer this work on paper, 19" by 25" inside the mat, 26 1/2" by 33" framed in simple black frame (to be shipped without glass), as a print of some kind by the important Swiss modern artist HANS ERNI (1909-2015). Signed in the plate at lower right and dated there "60", this would appear to be a monotype, or possibly a lithograph, with hand coloring added. Several examples are to be seen in the auction record, and they are I believe mistakenly described as gouache, original, unique works...

This is a fine pastel of a pair of dogs---Labradors possibly---(I welcome input from dog lovers)--one named at bottom "Lozi", the other, "Pamuzi", the drawing signed at lower left with what appears as "Janaa Olsen" or "Janaa Owen" or similar, and dated there 1988. It appears to be a portrait commissioned by an owner who was obviously very attached to these particular canines, who appear at this time to have been in the prime of their lives...

I hesitate to state unequivocally that it is, as the long hand signature differs from the commonly seen all-capital letters version. Oil on old gray art board painting of a pirate swashbuckler in the 17th century, 15" by 10" (23" by 18" framed), unsigned, executed in the earlier 20th century style of N. C. Wyeth. This work might have been created circa 1920 or so as an illustration to a book perhaps. The image would be a fine addition to a young boy's room. Condition is excellent save for a few small losses, one at center left (appearing as blue spot) and a loss in the figure's pants (light blue area at bottom).

This print is Haku Maki’s 78-6 水Water, number 108 in an edition of 151. Earlier that year,1978, he had already produced dramatic single-kanji large black and white prints. The first two, 78-1 Mountain and 78-2 Water, both horizontal prints, were 17in W x 9.25in H. They were followed soon after by 78-6, also horizontal. But this depiction of the kanji for water is nearly twice the size of the previous two: his 78-6 is 32.5 inches wide and 17 inches high (83cm W X 43.5cm H)...

At first glance appearing to be a print, this is in fact a painstakingly executed watercolor drawing, likely French I am thinking, measuring 16" by 20 1/2" (23 3/4" by 28" framed).
