This is an etching on laid paper, the sheet 10 1/2" by 14", simply framed, pencil signed by listed American early 20th century artist HORACE DEVITT WELSH (1888-1942). The subject appears to be a coastal location in Maine, judging from the sails in the distance and the mountainous coast. Welsh was a student of William Merritt Chase, Thomas Anschutz, and Joseph Pennell...

L'Evenement au Bal ~ Freudeberg....Nicely framed antique print. Light foxing but more pronounced within the boxed script and on the edges. No date. The frame measures 13" x 18". Not examined out of frame -sold as is.

Stated "One of twenty" prints by illustrator and children's book publisher. Helena Chase Johnson. The print is also marked "For Norman" along with her signature. An interesting note -- Chase owned The Little Hotel by the Sea (located at the Grande Colonial Hotel in La Jolla, Calif.) The hotel boasted of having a beautiful six-passenger mahogany elevator, making it "The Littlest Hotel in the World with an Elevator."

Original lithograph print, 1976, featuring, a typical Boulanger figure reclining on his back, looking up at clouds which incorporate the names and locales of galleries worldwide in which exhibitions of the artist's work are about to be held. There are a number of variants of this poster, the top portion focusing on the gallery and location; this one is for Meridian Gallery of Indianapolis, Indiana...

Gouache on paper painting of a lush tropical scene with a few figures and thatched huts under mysterious palm trees, signed at lower right "KOPP" and the word "Rio" after it. This work was likely created in the 1960's or early 1970's at latest, in Brazil. There is no glass nor mat; over time, at top center left in the tree line, and in the sky, the work acquired small paint loss areas, which are overwhelmed b the busyness of the scenery---and they are easily touched up...

Nicely framed antique print. Light foxing but more pronounced on the edges. The frame measures 13" x 18". Not examined out of frame-sold as is. "In the French engraving Le Lever after Freudenberg, of the 1780s (illustration, right), gentle social criticism is levelled at the lady of the court; that she slept without unlacing her stays, apparently, perhaps can be seen as artistic licence...

A decorative impressionist landscape painting of autumnal trees in an intimate space, perhaps a shallow arroyo, oil on canvasboard, 18" by 14" (25" by 21" framed), signed at lower left by artist Alison Lowe. It is framed in gold frame with clean liner and all in all is a solid decorative picture for moderate cost.

A naive ink drawing, possibly by a child, charmingly titled "EXCHANGES", featuring a mounted cowboy on right firing at an Indian with chief's headdress, firing an arrow at the cowboy while crouching behind a protective rock. A cactus at far left and steer skull at right complete the composition. Probably dates to the early to mid 20th century. It is a simple image, but states a message in a rather straightforward manner. Size is 8" by 12" in simple wood framing.

Gouache on paper, 16 1/2" by 10 3/4" and 4" on a side mat/frame, signed at lower left in Cyrillic with the possible name "Dreber" or "Dreiber" or "Dreyber", and dated 22 November 1974. This carefully crafted drawing of fuchsia and a tulip-shaped bloom reminds me of early American folk art Americana like Pennsylvania fraktur.......but, this is Russian! Condition is excellent with just slight mottling of a leaf... I think this could be just the artist's handling of the paint...

Oil on canvas, 24" by 36" (33" by 45" as framed), signed at lower left "Cantrell". This is a good sized oil of a peaceful scene with tree and a house against the setting sun. I date the work to the 1970's or 1980's. Condition good with some light craquelure and very slight dimpling, but no holes. The frame upper left corner is separating just a little bit.

Black and White wood block print "Celestial Destiny" by T Le Tigre 2007 india ink on heavy rag paper 221/4" by 15"

A vintage watercolor of two girls seated on rocks at the seashore, signed at lower left by artist Frank Lockwood and dated there 1945. The piece measures " by " and " by " as framed. All photos were taken through the detail-dulling non-glare glass that was popular in the sixties and seventies. I see a listing for a Frank Lockwood as photographer but no convincing listing for a painter by that name.

A lithograph, featuring trees aned dwellings near railroad tracks, pencil signed "HELEN NOEL EST." at lower right, unframed, 11 1/2" by 17 1/2". The artist is HELEN JEANETTE NOEL SHAGAM (1912-1989) of Illinois...

This is a pencil signed etching, 6 1/2" by 5" inside the overmat, (12 1/2" by 10 1/2" as framed), not titled, but depicting waterfront shacks and piers with a working boat in an industrial area, by noted San Francisco Bay area artist HERBERT IMRIE (1885-1976). Imrie, born in Napa and deceased in Marin County, was for many years associated with the Berkeley area. Exhibited in the 1939 Golden Gate exposition, he was president of the California Society of Etchers...

This is an antique painting of a rose in a tall glass vase, 13 1/2" by 5 3/8" framed, unsigned, circa 1900. Found in Rockland, Maine. The work, being of an unusual shape, might be that perfect addition to your narrow little space. There is wear on frame and the painting has even light soiling consistent with its age.

BARBARA A. WOOD the artist is from Ohio but also has spent considerable time in California, and, I believe, Georgia. Her work, whether in oil or a graphic work, often features studies of figures and families...

Three small works offered together, all by listed California artist TERESA (TESS) RAZALLE-CARTER (1888-1972). The works, two signed with monogram and one as "Carter", are a small impressionist ocean scene, a landscape of a tree against a sunset, ("Lost On the Salt Flats/August 1971" inscription), and a small Merry Christmas greeting in ink and white gouache. The largest works are 7 1/2" by 5 3/4" as framed...

ONE OF A NUMBER BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**This is a small etching (the sheet 6 1/8" by 4 1/2", respectably matted but not framed), by the noted California artist HARRIET GENE ROUDEBUSH (1908-1998), titled at lower left margin "Temple Emanu El /S.F." and pencil signed at lower right by the artist. The temple is a San Francisco landmark, the home of one of the oldest Jewish congregations in California, its heritage going back to the Gold Rush...

It is a great image, with mounted medieval horseman, an orthodox church in the distance, and a figure like Old Man Winter blowing at the horseman...

Oil on canvas, circa late nineteenth century, 21 1/2" by 26 3/4" and about one inch wide framing, unsigned, featuring feathery trees, distant snowy mountains, a lake with small sail craft, and a gentleman pulling in nets on another small boat. Here's an unusual item, a painting on white milk glass, in oil, measuring 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" and 8" by 10" as framed. The somewhat folk art feeling work is not signed. I would judge the age as anywhere from about 1880 to about 1920----a nautical type could probably date this more accurately by noting in which decade such a ship would have existed. Condition is good with minor paint losses from scratches and aging. However the small losses are not really noticeable at normal viewing distance. ...

This is a drawing of traditional subject matter in a contemporary style, evidently by a youngster who lived at the Taos Pueblo in northern New Mexico. Measuring 7 3/8" by 11 1/2" inside the present mat (12 5/8" by 17 1/2" as framed), the image is of a bison with a stylized sun at upper left, and scattered stylized trees, with a multi story adobe at lower right serving as the Pueblo itself. On the reverse is written "Age 13/Taos Day School/New,Mexico 87511/Taos Pueblo/U.S.A.". Medium seems to ...

A small unframed painting of a creek or pond in the forest, 3 3/4" by 5 1/2", signed at lower right and dated 1918 by early San Francisco artist ALICE MEUSSDORFFER (1871-1949). The work, roughly the size of an index card, is painted in oil on a thin card laid on a thicker card. Meussdorffer was born in San Francisco in 1871, the daughter of a well-known hat maker. A George Culley Canada watercolour painting of a house on lake. This unframed 15-1/4" x 11-1/4" watercolour on paper is by George S. Culley (Canadian, 1905 - 1988) depicting a house with boat ramp on a lake. This picture is signed and dated 1976. It is not titled, but is most likely an Ontario Canada setting. Oil on canvasboard painting of a rocky cliff at the coast, 11 1/2" by 14 3/4" as framed, signed at lower right "K.B. GUNDERMAN". The impressionist work likely dates to about 1960. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name (there is a Karen Gunderman who works with ceramic and abstraction but this does not seem to be the same artist). The painting has forty-plus years of yellowed varnish and light soiling but is otherwise in good condition.

African (possibly, west African) wood carving of a face with decorative motifs, two eye holes, extreme dimensions 23 1/2" by 4" by 3", hand painted and carved out of one block of wood. It has some age. An interesting work for a long narrow space that needs some decoration.

An impressionistic watercolor painting of a tree and brushy field, 9" by 8" (13" by 12" in wood frame), signed at lower left and dated there 1929 by artist EMMY LOU OSBORNE. I do not see biographical information on the artist but clearly she was a talented watercolorist. Condition is excellent.

Oil on board floral still life, 9 1/2" by 7 1/4" (11 1/2" by 9 1/4" framed), signed at lower right by listed artist JANET EDNA GREENLEAF (some give birth date as 1936). Born in Indiana, the artist studied in the San Francisco Bay area and also lived for significant periods of time in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Her generally small paintings of vases with flowers, similar to this one, are often encountered especially in the Northeast. Condition is excellent, frame is a little askew from shipping...

Irving Amen's works are most commonly prints, as he is considered a master print maker in woodblock, etching, lithography and silk screen; this example appears to be etching or etching with aquatint. He also executed oils and acrylics in the course of a long career. This work, titled at lower left in pencil "Tenderness" and numbered there 89/200 examples, is signed in pencil at lower right. Antique watercolor painting of a castle-like structure in an extensive landscape, 7 1/4" by 10 7/8", 14" by 17" in frame, signed with initials "M. N" and dated 1882 and, curiously, also 1888, at lower left corner. This is likely by an amateur watercolorist. The work is a survivor, with paper browning, broken off corners, and a small puncture at center right. Presently it is loose and unmounted within the framing.
