I have written in the past that Elna jewelry is more often than not very generous in proportions but this stunner of a bracelet goes above and beyond that! It is not just its sheer monumentality that impresses. It is also the classically "archaeological" character of the design itself which is expressed by the carved stone "mask" of an ancient Aztec Eagle warrior. Awesome in its military magnificence, the portrait is flanked by highly stylized butterfly (?) links with big cabochons set in bezels...

Hallmarks date this Hector Aguilar pin 1940-1945.

It's a book-piece design, with a slightly different version shown in "Silver Masters of Mexico". Highly detailed and whimsical in appearance, it's a large stately piece. Collector quality.

Measures 4 3/8" x 3 3/8".

Weight is 27.2 grams.

Signed and hallmarked with a conjoined HA, Sterling, and Made in Mexico.

In excellent vintage condition. Pin closes with a roller.

This bracelet is the work of Horatio de la Parra, whose company Plateria Azteca produced hollowware for both William Spratling and Hector Aguilar.

It's an early piece, dating to the 1940's. Six repoussé silver panels, each with a high domed amethyst cabochon, make for a regal deco design bracelet which closes with a pin.

This pin from Los Castillo dates 1940-1945. It's an early piece, likely designed by Margot van Voorhies Carr while she was married to Antonio Castillo. It's a beautiful repoussé sterling silver pin with an oval amethyst cabochon surrounded by tiny silver beading. A floral design with exquisite detailing, this pin measures 3 1/16" wide, 1 1/2" tall. Weight is 24.8 grams. Signed and hallmarked "Los Castillo Taxco Sterling Made in Mexico", with the early design number 100...

One of the Mexican designs inspired by Far Eastern cultures, the koi fish are a signature creation of Margot de Taxco and the Los Castillo yet its popularity prompted many of their "less celebrated" or anonymous contemporary maestros to come up with their own versions of it. And thankfully so because one can now find a beautiful example by a talented maker without having to break the bank - or at least not in a truly dramatic way! The all-silver necklace at hand is just such a welcome find...

I know and admire maestro C. Molina's work for its superb craftsmanship and its monumentality but I was still not prepared for this set of stupedying dangle earrings! There is big, there is massive and then, there is the pair of shadowbox stunners I am presenting here tonight...

This pre-1948 bracelet from Fred Davis is collector quality and a larger than life showpiece.

Composed of five huge oval amethyst cabochons framed within silver, the panels have a geometric design inspired by pre-Columbian clay stamps which Davis collected.

This bracelet is a book-piece design, shown in "Dreaming In Silver" by Penny C. Morrill, p. 69.

The amethysts measure 1 1/2" x 3/4"...

Hallmarks date these Hector Aguilar earrings 1940-1948. Perfect flowers, each with a domed center, leaves, and tiny beading, make these earrings both elegant and classy for everyday use or a special occasion. Screwbacks work perfectly. Measures 7/8" wide. Weight is 12 grams. Signed and hallmarked "HA 940 Taxco. Excellent vintage condition.

A wonderful brooch by William Spratling depicting a large moth. Measures 2 5/8" across and 1 7/8" high. Marked with the conjoined WS surrounded by Spratling Made in Mexico. Also marked Spratling Silver. Has a rollover safety clasp that holds securely. Heavy silver. Has some minor tarnish and surface scratches. Wonderful item.

This is a signed ANTONIO MEXICAN STERLING & PEARL RING. From a Virginia Estate this Ring is a size 6 1/2 and can be sized up or down per usual requirements. Hard to Find RING from one of the TOP Mexican Designers ca. 1950- 1975, perhaps earlier ... Pearl is slightly yellowed

Based on one of William Spratling's most classic, early designs this Mexican Deco silver and amethyst ring is an anonymous beauty from the same period the renowned designer was active. Lean and mean in its constitutive motifs, it nevertheless packs a powerful visual punch what with the mysterious depths of its cloudy cabochon and the curves of the beading on either side of the stone...

This Fred Davis ring was produced in the 1930's to early 1940's. It features a large hand-cut and polished amethyst cabochon, and is a generous size 7. The face of the ring is 13/16", with a depth of 3/8". The stone itself is gorgeous, with natural inclusions and quartz marbling. Weight is 9.8grams. Signed and hallmarked with the conjoined FD and Made in Mexico Silver. In excellent vintage condition.

Hallmarks date this magnificent early Matilde Poulat necklace to 1934-1948. The centerpiece is huge, measuring 5" wide and 3 1/8" tall, with beautiful birds and and three large faceted purple flowers in a vase. Hand-wrought with exquisite repoussé silver work. Embellished with coral and turquoise cabochons, amethysts on the clasp. Closed, wearable length is about 18 1/2"...

One of the most talented, innovative maestros of Mexico’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance, Jose Luis Flores created some amazing designs that were sold not only under his own name but bore the hallmarks of Miguel Martinez, Emma Melendez and Rubi Ramirez as well...

Circa 1930's - 1940's, here is a huge early hand-wrought Mexican modernist bracelet. Hallmarked simply "Silver Mexico", it's a book-piece design seldom seen, originally created by Frederick Davis and shown in the Morrill/Berk book "Mexican Silver". No maker's mark on this one. Four large amethyst cabochons with quartz marbling and natural inclusions sit between oval silver tubes with silver balls at each end...

Los Castillo is known for their superb silver repousse work and this stunning bracelet is an outstanding example of that skill. Two large vary ornate fish sitting on two blue Art Glass cabochons curve around the wrist ending with silver shells at the clasp in the back. It measures 6 1/2" long by 2" wide at the front tapering to 1" at the back and is quite heavy at 97.9 grams...

This lovely stanhope (in silver tone) measures 1 1/2" x just under 1". The viewer shows a woman in prayer and has The Lord's Prayer in full. The view is excellent: extremely clear and legible. The cross is decorated with pave-set, colorless rhinestones (some minor yellowing to rhinestones). Also in the viewer it reads MADE IN FRANCE.
