For the collector of fine photographs, here is a scarce or rare example of the work of major American photographer IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM (1883-1976). The image is of Anna Freud (1895-1982), the youngest child of famed psychologist Sigmund Freud, taken in 1959. The younger Freud became a specialist in child development and psychoanalysis, and today there is a foundation in London which carries on her work (google "anna freud centre")...

A colorful and compelling Orientalist watercolor on paper painting of a man of North Africa or the Middle East in traditional garb, signed lower right E. L. S., (the "L" larger than the other letters), measuring 12 1/2" by 10" (32 cm. by 25 cm.) and 20" by 13 3/4" in modern day simple framing. On the reverse side is a study, in pencil, of feet. There are no watermarks in the paper. This is by an obviously talented artist but without further information I cannot tie it to a listed name...

Yasuo Kuniyoshi 1889-1953 Japanese-American, Arts Students League N.Y. This is a fine pencil signed and dated lithograph by American artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi. This image created and printed in 1928, has an image size of 11X6 inches, printed on an ivory toned chine colle, adhered to a thicker supporting sheet. This lithograph is numbered as 28/30. Very fine condition apart from a line of toning in the border where an earlier window mat once lay. Catalog as Davis L-30.

A beautifully executed watercolor painting titled "America" signed at lower right by the noted English marine artist THOMAS GOLDSWORTHY DUTTON (c. 1819-1891), the subject a schooner with tiny figures off a coast; actually, a very special, historical schooner: "America" was a 19th-century racing yacht and first winner of the America's Cup international sailing trophy. On August 22, 1851, America won the Royal Yacht Squadron's 53-mile (85 km) regatta around the Isle of Wight by 18 minutes...

An oil on canvas painting of a classic old sailing ship on the ocean off the coast, (possibly the Southern California coast around San Diego----think Richard Henry Dana's 1840 book "Two Years Before the Mast"). The painting measures"14" by 18" (19" by 22 1/2" in attractive probably original circa 1920 frame with very interesting eucalyptus leaf design), and is signed at lower right by the noted California painter ANGEL ESPOY (1879-1963)...

A rare, early (1934) watercolor from an artist of the so-called "Lost Colony" of Saint Augustine, Florida artists, ROBERT HAMILTON, featuring one of the classic old buildings of the town dating to the end of the 18th century, the "Old Fatio House", (known today as the "Ximenez-Fatio House"), painted in an impressionist hand. Hamilton signed the work and lower right and dated it there. Measurements are 9" by 13 1/4" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 18 3/4" as framed...

Oil on canvas of what would appear to be a domestic family scene, measuring 28" by 31 1/2", unframed, signed at lower left in capital letters "GUYARD". There does not appear to be a listed artist who could be associated with this name, despite the fine skills demonstrated by the artist...

Fine spontaneous ink drawing on thin paper of man and boy dressed in traditional orthodox Jewish clothing, 7 3/4" by 4 3/4", 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" in narrow gold leaf framing by a quality New York City framer, signed at upper right by the noted Jewish-Ukrainian artist, EMANUEL MANE-KATZ (1894-1962). With some quick strokes of the pen, the master artist has created a fine image that embodies Jewish tradition and culture. The artist was born in the Ukraine near the end of the 19th century...

A very fine American portrait miniature painting, on natural organic material, of a young man attired in the latest fashion of his period, wearing a brown vest and velvet collar coat.

The miniature is 2 inches by 1 1/2 inches sight size and the deep purple velvet-lined thermoplastic case it is in is 3 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The piece is in superb condition, with no cracks, chips, bowing, or inpainting...

A beautiful Mughal or Indian Scene in watercolor with gold highlights measuring 7 x 8 1/2“, frame size 12 x 14“

Aquatint and etching on paper, 13 1/4" by 18" (20" by 24 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right and numbered "283" at lower left, the subject the world famous Notre Dame de Paris cathedral in central Paris at twilight, seen in the classic southeast view from the banks of the adjacent Seine River, by the French artist MANUEL ROBBE (1872-1936). I believe the title of this work is indeed "Notre Dame at Twilight", or, just "Notre Dame de Paris"; it dates to the year 1925...

From our African Collection: Ngere Mask (also called Guéré or Wè, and Kran in Liberia), from South West Ivory Coast, Liberia. 7" x 12" h.

**One of two works by the artist in my shop**, this is an oil on board painting of what appear as houses, rendered in rich colors, and in a firmly modernist style. The painting measures 11 1/2" by 14 1/2" and 15" by 18 1/2" in early gold framing. The work is signed at lower left in the paint. On the reverse side is a fragment, in poor condition, of another painting the artist evidently executed...

Sir Francis Seymour Haden, British, 1818-1910, "Shere Mill Pond, No. II". A beautiful etching by Sir Francis Seymour Hayden measuring 7 x 13 inches, pencil signed on l.r., Schneiderman cat: 37, state VIII/IX, 1860, printed on japan paper, label from Harlow and McDonald included. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law, James Whistler...

An accomplished ink drawing of three women and a male flute player at right, after Pablo Picasso, signed in pencil at lower right by the famous international art forger, ELMYR DE HORY (1906-1976). The 13 3/4" by 18 1/4" work (20 1/4" by 25" in interesting framing incorporating mirrors in the margin areas) is a fine example of the work of De Hory, the Hungarian-born man who went on to become perhaps the world's most famous art forger by mid century...
