A contemporary oil on canvasboard painting, 16" by 20", 19 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed, the subject an intimate little harbor no doubt in coastal Maine, with a lobsterman's shack and traps stacked on the deck, and his trap-identifying floats hanging on the side of the structure. The talented amateur artist "Paula" signed at lower right and dated the work '98. The work has accumulated a little light soiling and two small abraded areas, as shown.

Fine decorative 19th century engraving print, titled at bottom margin "Philadelphia from Belmont (WEST PARK)", by English-born artist ROBERT HINSHELWOOD (1812-1879). Hinshelwood came to the United States in 1835 as a young man and pursued his art skills, in both painting and engraving. In this case he seems to have engraved after his own original painting---a fairly rare skill combination...

An English antique line engraving by Taylor, published by Alexander Hogg in "The Antiquities of England and Wales", 1795, the subject given as "View of Lambeth Palace in Surrey". The print measures 7 1/4" by 9 1/4" (and 13 1/2" by 15 1/2" framed). The print looks decidedly antique, the paper with old crinkles, and it is simply laid against a pinkish board. This is the original cartoon art (5" by 16 3/4") for the daily strip of June 26, year unknown, by well known figure in American cartoon art, MERRILL BLOSSER (1892-1983). Blosser drew the comic strip for over 50 years, from 1915 to 1965. Oil on board, 14 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, unsigned, the subject an extensive hilly landscape with distant structures. I believe the scene is more than likely American. The painting could use a cleaning as there is discolored varnish, causing the colors to appear more brown and less blue/white in the sky. There is some soiling at top mostly and a small 1/8" or less pressure mark at center in the sky. Overall this painting makes for a pleasant and decorative landscape...

Judging from the appearance, hairstyle, this probably dates to before World War II. The anonymous artist created an interesting study with skilled use of shadow and line. The work bears signature "Montezin" at lower left but I have researched the piece and it is not by the noted French artist. It is offered solely on its decorative qualities. There are light folds in the paper at top but they are not really a concern.

Watercolor painting of autumnal tree in a landscape, 21" by 14", unframed, signed at lower left Virginia Dicken and on reverse is written "Autumn Gold". I do not see information on an artist by that name but she was obviously familiar with watercolor technique, including wet-on-wet technique visible at upper right. Presently the work is taped at edges to a mat (can and should be removed). Condition is excellent; just frame it.
