This is a decorative, peaceful scene of late autumn by a pond or small lake, signed at lower left "Sydney Cooper". Even though the spelling differs ("Sidney"), this could be by or after the well-known English 19th century artist THOMAS SIDNEY COOPER (1803-1902), who was known for his landscapes with farm animals. The painting is unframed and measures 22" by 15 1/2"...

**PAIR** of watercolors on paper of African American musicians in the famous New Orleans French Quarter jazz spot known as Preservation Hall. Each painting is on a sheet of heavy watercolor paper measuring 15" by 11" (21 1/2" by 16 1/2" as framed), both signed but I am unable to decipher the signature----looks something like "Tortelli" but that is a wild guess. These are possibly paintings for the tourist trade but there is a monumentality to the work that goes beyond tourist art...

Hudson River School style watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 19" inside the mat, 24" by 30" as framed, signed at lower right "Byron Albee". This is a subtle, delicate, beautifully executed watercolor of trees and a line of stones next to a pond. Because it IS so subtle, it does not photograph impressively; but in person it is appealing. The work has survived the years in excellent condition with only a bit of well balanced overall browning of the paper...

Watercolor on paper, measuring approximately 12" by 16 1/2" (19" by 23" as framed), the subject El Capitan peak, also called Agathla by the Navajo people, a sharp, distinct isolated mountain south of Monument Valley, Arizona, over 1500 feet (457 meters) high. The drawing is titled "El Capitan" at lower left and signed with what appears to be "Turla" at lower right; I don't see a listing for that artist name...

Original etching on paper watermarked "France" (probably Arches paper), 9 3/4" by 7 7/8" (image only), and the sheet with at least 1 1/8" margins (up to nearly 2" at right), pencil signed at lower right by the noted American printmaker LUIGI LUCIONI (1900-1988). This is no doubt a Vermont landscape scene, as Lucioni's prints largely deal with the classic mountain scenery of that state...

Detreville was born in South Carolina in 1864, and by the early years of the new century, he was in Stockton publishing a magazine. Measurements inside the mat are 18" by 26 1/4", and the piece as framed is 26 1/2" by 33 1/2". The original 19th century lithograph is in the "Best 50" list, and it inspired many paintings after its publication...

Baker. The artist was obviously skilled in the use of pastel, but I am not able to say who the artist might have been. I thought it could possibly be Dewitt Parshall, California artist, but don't know if he worked in the Northwest...

Charcoal on paper, 7 7/8" by 11 3/8" (14 1/4" by 17 7/8" as framed), not signed above the mat (not opened up), but bearing a 1968 label on the reverse from ACA American Master Gallery of La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles, providing the name of the artist, with the words below stating "From the estate by K Moskowitz". This is a rather typical subject for the artist, EUGENE HIGGINS (1874-1958), who is today grouped with the Ash Can school of American art of the first half of the twentieth century...
