JOHN MEIRES George III c1790 Female Silhouette on Plaster Original Frame JOHN MEIRS - SILLOUHETTE c1790 This beautiful silhouette on plaster, the preferred ground of Meirs, is in very good condition, in its original frame and measures 5" in length. The subject is a female but her identity is unknown. Meirs is one of the most respected of the UK silhouette artists and much information about him can be found online.

An oil on canvas painting of a young prince or son born of a noble family, 30" by 24 3/4", unframed, unsigned. The boy's face to my eye reminds of Goya, so perhaps this could be of Spanish origin (though, "FRANCE" is written on the stretcher in modern hand). The painting was relined sometime in the mid 20th century. There are some scratches at upper right which appear as white marks in the photos, some minor edge losses at lower left, and there is an even craquelure over much of the surface.

Note the beautiful shading and modeling of the anatomy---the limbs and their musculature, and the strategically placed fig leaf...

An antique red chalk European drawing on laid paper, sheet 8 1/4" by 6 3/4" (15 3/4" by 12" in 20th century frame), unsigned, the subject an aristocratic woman formally dressed, with upswept hair of the period. One wonders if this might be Marie Antoinette herself, or someone else who might have been caught up in the 1789 storming of the Bastille and the infamous Reign of Terror. There is a watermark in the old paper. Taped at top edge only...
