A very well executed miniature portrait painting of a gentleman, watercolor on natural organic material, by Edward Nash. The leather travel case states that the miniature was owned by Mrs. Thos. Higham. The miniature is in wonderful condition, but lacks an inner case to the travel case. The size is 2 13/16" by 2 5/16".

NOTE: Edward Nash (1778-1821), reportedly a hunchback, exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1800 to 1820...

Daniel Tretiak, after publishing his book The Life and Works of Haku Maki in 2007, found that he had more to say about prints as they came into his life. Original 19th Century albumen photograph by Jean-Pascal Sebah (1872-1947) of the New Hotel in Cairo. Circa 1888-1895. Titled l.l. Signed in the plate l.r. Jean-Pascal was the son of Pascal Sebah (1823-1886) and took over the family studio in Constantinople in 1888. The studio specialized in scenes of Egypt and the Middle East.

The print is framed without mat and has some condition issues, including two vertical folding creases, and a damage area at lower center, below the horse's leg (see close up of that)...

A landscape painting with feathery trees silhouetted against a luminous sky, a female figure walking at right with brown cow on the path which borders a creek, signed illegibly at lower right and dated there 1852. Someone invested some money in preserving the work, as it has been relined in recent times. The original stretcher was retained. The work is now stable. It is not perfectly flat however, there being some roll to the canvas especially at bottom...

Beer Wagon etching by Harry Lewis Bailey. 8 x 12“. Frame Size 15x19". Harry Lewis Bailey was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1879. He studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts. He was an etcher who relocated to California where he was an illustrator and etcher. He became a member of the California Arts Club, the California Society of Etchers and the Printmakers Society.

The stately blue-eyed gentleman is wearing a powdered wig, blue jacket with gold buttons, salmon vest, and a white stock. The case for this fine piece is 14K gold, and the reverse has, under glass, 4 sections of hair set at right angles to one another.

The condition of both the painting and the case is excellent, with no issues whatsoever...

A nicely executed good-sized pastel drawing, 19" by 23" (24" by 28" framed), the subject a fast-looking high-end sailboat off a coastline, manned by a number of figures. I would estimate the age as circa 1960's or 1970's. Framed behind detail-dulling non-glare glass, which was common during those years. Frame shows wear, drawing is in excellent condition. Signature "Mather" is at lower left.

Measures 17 1/4" high and 11 1/2" wide. Signed at bottom right. Condition shows losses to edges and 1" tear at upper left side, the paper is very soft and fragile. Should be handled carefully before matting and framing...
