Floyd, a notable porcelain artist in Alexandria, learned to paint on porcelain in the early 1970’s and taught her craft in workshops for the Fairfax County Adult Education program.

She was a Pennsylvania native who attended a business college before moving to Washington in 1941 to work as a secretary in the Pentagon...

Oil on canvas painting of a picturesque old water mill located on a stream in high alpine mountains, 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 38" framed), not signed on the front side but the reverse side shows post-1885 stretcher keys, and pencil writing which identifies the scene as "The Valley of Jen(bach)? Switzerland", and the artist as "Louise Goodman 1914". The artist does not appear to be listed. The scene might possibly have been painted after an original by another artist of the 19th century...

Original etching on copper by Wendell H. Black (American, 1919-1972), first edition, printed posthumously by Berkley Chappell. In excellent original condition, roughly 4' by 6". Titled and numbered 7/25 l.l. Also signed and dated '61 l.r. This work is also signed and marked "imp" by Berk Chappell. cf: "The Lost Works of Wendell H. Black" by Henry Sayre, plates 7 and 8--plates are misattributed in the book, since GH III should be plate 8, and GH IV should be plate 7.

Oil on canvas contemporary painting of a young woman in a sundress and stylish sun hat, on the deck of a ship, not signed. The work, 19 3/4" by 19 3/4", is unframed and unsigned. Condition is excellent overall, though I note two very light scuffs at right to the left of the lifesaver ring. A cute whimsical work for your wall.

Acquired as one of a number of works by late Bozeman, Montana artist MARION "MAL" LEWIS (1925-2010), this is a crayon drawing of a landscape with trees and a small body of water, 8" by 11", (loosely attached to a white mat), likely dating to late in the artist's life. While traveling through Montana I came upon a group of mostly collage, abstract works by this artist, though there is at least one non-abstract work, a New Mexico drawing, that I have listed...

This charming portrait displays the influence of the “Gibson Girl” fashion sense with her softly piled hair and high collared blouse, made popular by the artist Charles Dana Gibson in the 1890’s.

PAIR of original drawings of a traditionally dressed Moroccan man and woman, executed in pastel, each 10" by 7 3/4" (16 1/2" by 14 1/4" as framed), each signed by the noted American artist LOUIS J. ENDRES (1896-1989) and bearing the notation "Maroc". Endres hailed from Cincinnati and studied with Frank Duveneck. By his late 20's he was to be found in North Africa, in Morocco, where he found a wealth of artistic subject matter that continued to engage him throughout his life...

By 1886 he had established himself as an artist with exceptional talent, although he had almost certainly been painting earlier whilst in the Royal Marines. He made numerous painting excursions to Scotland where he perfected his skills at rendering exquisite compositions depicting the highlands...

Jean Louis Forain, French, 1852-1931, etching, "Le Noeud de Cravate", image size 5 3/4 x 3 3/4 in, from CROQUIS PARISIENS, 1880, possibly a later printing (Faxon, 20), pencil signed

A color print, pencil signed at lower right, numbered 466/900 at lower left, by the noted western American artist OLAF WIEGHORST (1899-1988). The title is "Navajos at Castle Creek", measuring 17 3/4" by 24 1/2" inside the mat, 28" by 34" as framed. Wieghorst was born in Denmark and was exposed to horses there. By 1918 he was in the United States. Ultimately he settled in the San Diego area and became well known for his western American art. Paintings have gone into six figures at auction...

Found in far northern Vermont in the course of an art buying trip some years ago, is this unframed 20" by 16" oil on canvas portrait of a man, apparently signed "Shoelman" at lower right and signed again and dated on the reverse (possibly, 1806, though, more likely, 1846, considering the style---the digit likely a "4"). I acquired the painting near Cambridge/Jeffersonville not far from the Canadian border...

A lovely and ethereal miniature of a blond-haired, blue-eyed beautiful young girl. Signed center left "T.R. Manley 1900", it is in its original gilt sterling case with a beaded edge, with the reverse appearing to be evenly tarnished. Excellent condition with no problems, and measuring 3 1/4" by 2 3/4".
