Superb 19th century Mexican folk retablo on tin depicting Christ crucified, yet living. The subject is sometimes referred to as "La Vindimia Mistica", and sometimes as "El Varon Eucaristo de Dolores". Blood flows from Jesus' wounds into a chalice and basin as a reminder that Christ suffers daily for the viewer's sins. Seven lambs, representing the seven sacraments of the Catholic church surround the fountain...

From our Fine Arts and Americana Collection, an early Tomasz Rut original oil on canvas masterpiece titled "Celesta," widely regarded as one of his top paintings of all time.

We were fortunate to meet Tomasz in the early 1990's when he was nary as famous as he is now, and were doubly fortunate to subsequently acquire two of his early original works, both of which are now considered to be two of the best he has ever created...

There are lots of signed prints out there, but few original works, by the hand of famous comedian RED SKELTON (1913-1997), who is said to have said that he made more money from his art than from his entertainment career. This is one of those scarce original works: a pencil drawing of a bird's head---likely a gull, though, possibly a young eagle...

Old master painting, the subject soldiers in an extensive landscape battle scene, some mounted, 16" by 24 3/4", unframed, on old canvas, relined long ago, not signed, but on the stretcher is written in old hand "Borgognone". JACQUES COURTOIS, 1621-1676, was well known for his skill painting battle scenes. As a result of his fame, centuries later, it is tempting apparently to attribute all unsigned battle paintings to his hand, or his studio, or circle...

Apparently unsigned watercolor on heavy paper painting of an arid landscape in the American Southwest, including a distant mountain, barbed wire fencing at a dirt crossroads, and fading evening clouds, 14" by 17 1/2" as framed in a faux burl frame. When I first saw the image I was reminded of some of the watercolor art of Peter Hurd---the memorable scenes he painted of New Mexico. There is no evidence that he painted this one, but perhaps the artist was inspired by Hurd's imagery...
