Printed by Delatre in Paris, this Felix Bracquemonde frontispiece measures 14 x 9 3/4 inches, published by Alfred Cadart, Paris. Created in 1865, this bold allegorical etching was created as the frontispiece to a volume of the renowned periodical of the Société des Aqua-Fortistes, a group promoting etching as a fine art. Richly inked on watermarked Aqua-Fortistes laid paper, which was made especially for these publications.

An absolutely charming and well painted portrait of Lady Clementina Villiers, done by George Lethbridge Saunders on natural wafer. Clementina, with blue eyes and golden-brown sausage curls, is posed in a classic white gown with a red shawl, holding a dove in her lap. The background features a blue sky and a tree.

Condition is excellent, with strong colors and no cracks, chips, paint loss, bowing, or restoration. The wood frame is also in excellent condition...

This is a very nicely executed decorative impressionistic painting of a pond in spring within a groomed park-like setting, complete with mini-island with pagoda type rock formation, all surrounded by flowering springtime trees. There might even be orange koi fish in the pond. The painting, most likely American in origin, is oil on canvas laid on board. It is signed at lower right but I cannot seem to make it out. Size is 12" by 16", unframed...

"On the Terrace at Gloucester" Oil on canvas 30" x 18" unframed Robert Philipp, painter and etcher was born February 2nd, 1895 in New York City. He studied at the Art Students' League with Frank Vincent DuMond and George Bridgman from 1910 to 1914. He also studied at the National Academy of Design with Volk and Maynard from 1914 to 1917. Philipp painted a wide range of subjects from genre and portraits to Paris, bars, nudes, clowns, flowers and coasts...

Watercolor on paper, 12 1/2" by 18 1/4" inside the present mat, 19 1/2" by 26" as framed, signed "TOWNLEY" at lower right corner and dated there "Oct. 68". I do not see a listing that would match up with this name but the artist was obviously a talented individual. This appears to be a mountain landscape in one of the western states. The trees and the animals are beautifully executed, and there is a superb little ink drawing of a fox near the signature...

Hans Kleiss was an Orientalist/ Africanist painter, illustrator, and caricaturist. He was the husband of Orientalist painter Yvonne Kleiss-Herzig. Contemporary watercolor of the famous Pirates Alley in the French Quarter of New Orleans, 10 1/2" by 6 1/2" (18" by 14" in newer framing), signed at lower right. The work is beautifully painted by a talented hand that I cannot identify. Condition is excellent. There is a little bit of loss in the frame at upper left corner and lower center, showing as red areas. Some gold paint would cover these. See many other works of New Orleans in my shop.
