A double signed photogravure done by the son of Douglas Volk circa 1900 with a drawing of the Volk Life Mask of Lincoln and a drawing of the hand of Lincoln in the selvage. As a footnote, this work was presented by Douglas Volk to Daniel Chester French (1850-1931) as a gift on the occasion of the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922.

A 1978-dated, oil on board painting of a Mid-Century looking building, apparently under construction, in an urban setting, signed at lower right "JAN BAZANOWSKI". The work, 17" by 23" inside the double mat and 24" by 30" in gold metal frame (no glass) is in excellent condition. Frame has some scratches and mat is soiled and could be replaced. The painting is simply very interesting, and unusual; would work well in a Mid-Century setting...

This is an oil on canvas, 20" by 30", signed at lower right "J.B. Radway", who was a 19th century California listed artist, (JESSE B. RADWAY, 1826-c. 1905), but the subject is given on the stretcher as "on the North Cheyenne, Col.". According to the Hughes listing, Radway was born in New York in 1826, and was a resident of Silver Lake, Kansas in 1880, Topeka, Kansas in 1884-85, Alameda, California in 1887, and Vineland, New Jersey in 1900. He is believed to have died in New Jersey in about 1905...

Late 19th century watercolor painting of the famous Spanish Steps in Rome, an historical church forming the backdrop to a scene still iconic today. The painting is signed at lower left "Conti"; it is possible it is a work of the listed artist Tito Conti (1842-1924) but I cannot say for certain that he was the artist. The piece, which measures 12 3/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mat, and 22 1/2" by 18" as framed...

I am offering this as a bold, modern decorative painting, and NOT as a genuine work of the important American artist James D. Brooks (1906-1992). An example of the scarce "sur blanc" lithograph prints of famed French caricaturist and satirist artist HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879), the 1851 print from the "Actualites" series, and Le Charivari. It is beautifully hand colored, with gum arabic highlights in the dark areas of the central figure's robe. Not examined out of the frame, it appears very clean and fresh (happy to examine out of frame upon request)...

On the reverse side it is titled "Deep in the Heart of Texas", signed again and dated 1950. I do not see information on the artist. Curiously there was a woman by that name who passed away in 1989 in Manhattan, Kansas area; on the backing paper, most of a label is missing, but the remaining letters of what would be the town in the address are "MAN..."...
