For the den or man cave of the fly fisherman, here is a rustic painting on plywood panel of a trout leaping to catch what appears to be a large yellow moth or butterfly flitting just above the water's surface. The painting is actually titled "Butterfly" at bottom center. At right corner is the name of the artist, W. L. Mohl or Mahl, and "White Pine Pk. 1939". There is a "White Pine Peak" in both Utah and Nevada. This was found in Fresno, in central California...

In 1899 the Italian painter, graphic artist and sculptor went to Rome in 1899 to attend evening classes at the Villa Medici. Oil on canvas, 22" by 18" and 2 1/2" wide frame, unsigned, showing the famous Mountain of the Holy Cross in central Colorado, 100 miles west of Denver and 15 miles from Vail. This is a late 19th century painting, evidently one of many copies, by many artists, of the iconic 7' by 5' work by famous American artist Thomas Moran, which was completed in the year 1875. The painting is in compromised condition, with soiling, paint loss, punctures, and scrapes, but, I believe it worth restoring...

The title of this work is: "Fleet Street,London", circa 1930, one of his best works. The view is of St.Pauls and Ludgate Hill from Fleet Street. The image measures 21 1/4X17 inches. very nice condition, pencil signed in the lower left border, printed on a wove type paper. It appears in the Kasimir catalog as image number 10.

A totally charming miniature painting of a child, done in watercolor on natural material, and housed in an elaborately molded 15K gold case and surround. The cute sitter is in a white gown and posed against a cloud-filled blue sky, with foliage and a tree to the right. The reverse of the case is glazed, with a lock of hair in the aperture, and a pin so that the miniature can be worn as a brooch.

The condition of this lovely example is excellent...

The artist has signed in the wet paint at lower right, and on the reverse, she wrote "To Lenore Hudson/Painted at Ebell Club/Feb. 1993/May the joy of the desert allure bloom in your heart {I believe that is what the last line reads, not certain}/Best always/Kathi Hilton"...

There is a listing for an Anna Wilson in California but I do not believe that this is by the same artist...

It is in very good condition and is in a French Impressionist frame. Costigan has an extensive exhibition and award record at the Corcoran Gallery. His work is in the Museum of Modern Art, Cranbrook, Boston Museum among others...

Torii Kiyonaga, Japanese, 1752-1815, "Two Women with Young Servant". This woodblock print by Torii Kiyonaga measures 9 1/2 x 7 inches. It is signed, sealed and titled within the image. Kiyonaga was one of the great masters of the full-color print depicting courtesans, beautiful women and Kabuki actors. Head of the Torii school, he excelled with "bijin-ga" (beautiful women) prints and these were considered to be his best works.

An uncommon example of an early Abraham Parsell portrait miniature, done in watercolor on organic wafer. The sitter is a strong featured gentleman arrayed in the height of fashion for the period: a black jacket, white collar, cravat, ruffled shirt, and vest. The painting is in a cast foliate case which has on the reverse a glazed aperture with a cast foliate rim and containing a lock of hair.

The condition of the case is excellent, as is that of the painting, which has no chips, cracks, bowing...

Oil on canvas of a square in Paris, larger size at 31 1/2" by 31 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right corner with what appears as "R. Ode". The painting likely dates to about 1960, judging from the clothing of the people in the image. I do not see a listing by this name but am continuing to research. Condition: the painting will need restoration. The canvas has separated from the stretcher, so the stretcher will need to be replaced, or the canvas will have to be re-attached to the present ...
