Oil on canvas, 24" by 36" (33" by 45" as framed), signed at lower left "Cantrell". This is a good sized oil of a peaceful scene with tree and a house against the setting sun. I date the work to the 1970's or 1980's. Condition good with some light craquelure and very slight dimpling, but no holes. The frame upper left corner is separating just a little bit.

The Lucien Crump Art Gallery and Education Center closed its doors for the final time Friday after 40 years of serving Philadelphia as the first to feature works by African-American artists. The gallery’s namesake, who had a long career as an artist and educator, passed away at age 71 in 2006. This is a fine old drawing of an old-style wooden house with porch, an ancient old tree arching over the structure and two tiny figures at left. The drawing on paper, laid on a board, measures 14" by 9 1/2" inside the mat and 19" by 14 1/2" as framed. There does not appear to be a signature anywhere, but considering the quality of the imagery we must conclude that the artist was trained and listed. Found in Riverside, California, with Santa Barbara framer's sticker on the backing...

Jean Jacques Henner, French, 1829-1905. This dreamy beautiful painting is oil on canvas, signed lower left is 15 7/8" by 24 1/8" in a beautifl period frame (24 3/8" by 32 7/8"). It is in good condition and has been lined long ago. There is an old tag on the upper back with the name in French and a price of $27,500. He is listed in Benezit and his paintings sell for up to $75,000.
