Beautifully executed drawing in soft pencil, 8 1/2" by 11 1/2" sheet, 6 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the rectangular border drawn by the artist, and 10 1/4" by 13 5/8" as framed, signed at lower right "Davis F. Schwartz", showing a copse of trees in a hilly landscape. This drawing, which reminds of works by Ralph Holmes or Maynard Dixon, is nicely framed in a 1930's or 1940's frame. Schwartz (1879-1969) has a sizable listing in Hughes' "Artists in California 1786-1940"...

A fine, large bronze animalier sculpture by Ferdinand Pautrot (1832-74). The figure represents a pair of pheasants, one perched on a gnarled barren branch while the other appears to strut along the ground. The body position of the lower bird gives the composition a great deal of movement that is often missing in classical animalier bronzes. The ground is covered in long grass that is somewhat less common than Pautrot's more characteristic rocky ground...

This is a work by highly regarded American artist THOMAS WILLOUGHBY NASON (1889-1971). Nason was a Boston-born artist who by the late 1920's had taught himself the fine art of creating prints in the wood engraving process. This process was popular for illustrating books in the 19th century but by the twentieth it had fallen from favor. He revived the medium and truly excelled at it. Elizabeth Fisher Washington 1871-1953 Washington was the great-grandniece of President George Washington and a highly regarded miniaturist and portrait painter.
