20th Century American School 1900-1999 American Artists This is the third watercolor and gouache painting that we recently acquired. All park scenes, all painted on a blue toned paper, nicely framed with archival materials. We are unsure who this artist was, most likely one of the mid 1930's American Illustrators. The image measures 8 1/4X5 1/4 inches. Unexamined out of the frame. Probably a view in Central Park N.Y.

A highly decorative original pochoir print of flowers in a vase, within a blue circle, singed in the print by the noted French artist and fashion illustrator GEORGES LEPAPE (1887-1971). The print measures 15 1/4" by 12" inside the double mat, and 25 3/4" by 21 3/4" as framed. Lepape was born in Paris. He was educated at the Ecole des Beaux Arts 1908-1910. The young artist met Paul Poiret around this time as well as Georges Braque and Marie Laurencin...

ONE OF TWO DRAWINGS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP---A pencil drawing of the Hell Gate railroad bridge in New York City, (so identified after research conducted on the internet), 8 7/8" by 6 3/4" (14 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed, no glass, loose in black metal frame), signed with initials "JRM" at lower left and dated there 1943. On the reverse a previous owner wrote "JOHN RICHARD MOORE 1925-2009 University High Sch arts class Co Founder Panavision Co.". This early work would date to the artist's teens...

Oil on canvasboard painting of a home and greenery with a high mountain backdrop, signed at lower left faintly "J. F. Gasser" and inscribed on reverse "Original/by Rev. J. F. Gasser/April 1937/La Crescenta Calif". The work measures 12" by 16" (16" by 19 1/2" framed). The artist does not appear to be listed or known but was talented. An early scene in what is today a highly desirable upscale Los Angeles suburb backing up to the scenic Angeles National Forest.

A pretty scene of rapids and a wild river running through a wide gorge, trees bordering, signed at lower left with initials that appear to be MKB and dated there 1934. The watercolor on paper work measures 14 1/2" by 11 1/2" (25 1/2" by 21 1/2" in interesting frame, with drawn lines mat). The landscape could be Canadian as well but without more information on the artist it is difficult to determine authorship. Found in the mountain states of the west...

I cannot find any information on the artist but she was surely talented. The drawing is very strong and in excellent, fresh condition, and it is very nicely framed with a burl wood type frame and quality matting...

Old watercolor painting of Yosemite National Park's famous "Tunnel Tree", signed at lower right by artist J. M. Stewart. The tree became famous after the drive-through tunnel was cut through it in 1881, making it an instant tourist attraction and one of the wonders of the astounding west. The tree fell in a storm in 1969, at which time it was estimated to be 2,100 years old. It had reached a height of 234 feet. The tunnel was 7 feet wide, 9 feet high and 26 feet long at the base...

African Lega Bone Figure from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, circa 1940. Measures 12" tall. The Lega peoples live on the southeastern edge of the central African rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. From the mid to late 1800s, the Lega and adjacent peoples were raided for the Indian Ocean trade in slaves and ivory. In 1885, the Lega were brought into the Congo Free State, which became the Belgian Congo in 1908. Still, the Lega live in an isolated and mountainous region...
