Etching on very thin paper, "Charles Baudelaire, de Face", 1865, later, likely posthumous impression, by the famous French artist EDOUARD MANET (1832-1883). The work measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/4" inside the plate mark, and the sheet measures 8 1/4" by 6 1/4". This is Guerin #38 in the catalogue raisonne, and probably the 4th (final) state. The paper being very thin and flimsy, would lead me to believe this would NOT be a twentieth century restrike. There is a simple modern frame...

A nicely painted miniature portrait, on natural wafer, of a fashionably attired gentleman. The sitter is wearing a white shirt and stock, a black coat with velvet lapels, and a gray vest with black polka dots. Presented in a period, and possibly original, ebonized frame.

No cracks, chips, restoration or other condition issues. Sight size is 2 1/2" by 1 3/4", and the frame size is 4 3/8" by 3 3/8".

Oil on canvas painting completely in the distinctive sepia tones manner often employed by the artist, 14" by 18" (19 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed), the subject the famous aspen and mountains of northern New Mexico, signed at lower left and notated there "Taos" by well listed artist THOMAS L. LEWIS (1907-1978). Lewis was born near Houston and was already a professional artist by age 19...

Watercolor on paper painting of green hills in the spring or winter, their tops entering low cloud, 15" by 21" (24" by 30" in circa 1950's or 1960's frame), signed at lower left by listed California artist STANFORD STEVENS (1897-1974). This is a very competently executed painting of what I imagine is a California landscape turning green after winter and spring rains...

PAIR of gouache paintings of Italy, one apparently showing the island of Ischia in moonlight, at the entrance to the Gulf of Naples, the other a coastal scene of the mainland, neither signed, circa 1900. The Ischia work measures 6 1/2" by 9 3/4", the other 7" by 10 3/4" (12" by 14 3/4" and 12 1/2" by 16" framed----the frames slightly different). Such paintings were popular souvenirs that went home with Grand Tour visitors at the turn of the century...

A complex mixed media drawing, in the style of Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), featuring geometric shapes and forms, measuring 7 1/2" by 11 3/4" inside the mat opening (17" in 21" in frame). The drawing is created with graphite, watercolor, gouache and perhaps pastel crayon. The detail is tight and finished. A very decorative work with color and form, sure to be a conversation piece.

TWO antique, original (not reproduction) lithograph prints with hand coloring, one titled "Interior of Greek Church of the Holy Sepulchre Jerusalem April 11, 1839", the other "Citadel of Jerusalem without the walls", by noted English artist and Middle Eastern traveler DAVID ROBERTS (1796-1864). The first measures 14 1/4" by 19 1/2" (24" by 28 1/2" as framed); the second measures 9 1/2" by 12 3/4" (18" by 20 1/4" as framed)...

Eugenia Grant's floral works in pastel are amazing achievements, often leading people to think they are prints. This is a glorious original work, 21" by 26 3/4", framed behind glass (33" by 39" framed), and signed at lower right. The realistic depiction of the pink roses, flowers, porcelain vessel, curtain backdrop, and reflection in table top, is very impressive indeed. I have seen a number of works by this highly underrated artist, and they always feature this impressive attention to detail...

Cuevas since the mid 1980's has been known for his works featuring local scenes in the San Gabriels and vicinity, as well as other parts of Southern California...

The creator Mizoguchi Yoshiharu　 Mr. Mizoguchi is a kaleidoscope creater living in Shizuoka prefecture,Japan and he is also good at using lacquer, making dynasty style paper and writing calligraphy. Recently, he has also created works using wood grain with old Japanese cloth. The kaleidoscope created from his excellent sensitivity has a representation of Japanese beauty "wabi sabi"at the image and the shape. An example of the etching originally dating to 1891, "Sitzender Mannlicher Akt" (Sitting Nude Man), by famous German artist KATHE KOLLWITZ (1867-1945). The sheet measures 7" by 6" inside the mat, 16" by 15" as framed. This is a circa 1946-48 posthumous edition on cream wove paper, with the A.V.D. Becke blind stamp from Berlin Halensee impressed at lower right (which I have tried my best to photograph). Kollwitz was born in Konigsberg in the old East Prussia...
