Online research shows that name to be most commonly found in Ecuador, but the artist is J. COSME QUISHPE of Cuzco, contemporary South American artist educated at the Ecole de Cuzco Contemporaine. A color etching of houses in mid winter in Hungary, signed below the image at right by Hungarian listed artist ISTVAN ELESDY (1912-1987). The artist, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, is known for watercolors and his graphic art. This print is laid down (affixed permanently) to a soft cardboard. There is some water staining at the edges and foxing/discoloration in the very wide margins but that can be easily matted out...

A large well executed watercolor by Richard Zoellner, American (1908-2003) of a farm and small village with a church steeple on a bleak winter day. Titled on the back of the watercolor, “Day in January.” Sight size 13 1/2 by 20 inches.

This is a rather large oil on canvas work, 30" by 39" (43" by 34" as framed), signed at lower right "DeShazo", the subject a landscape with houses, church, and lonely leaning telephone pole. The work is not titled and the artist is not apparently listed...

This was once a beautiful late 1950's period example of Italian abstract art, executed by the listed artist, from Venice, Italy, GIOVANNI GIULIANI (1893-1965). Unfortunately due to careless storage by one or many owners (it was exposed to moisture), combined with the artist's choice of materials, it is now a restorer's special, worthy of conservation. I have received a quote of $400 to have it relined so that it can safely travel...

A contemporary oil on canvas scene featuring a small bridge over a Venice, Italy canal; this may be the famous Ponte delle Tette bridge. The work measures 11 1/2" by 13 1/2" as framed. I do not see a signature. The painting and frame are in excellent condition.

This is a PAIR of color aquatints, each 8 1/2 by 12 1/2" inside the framing, 11 3/4" by 15 3/4" as framed, the subjects Notre Dame cathedral and the famous booksellers by the Seine in Paris, and (I believe) the famous column at the Place Vendome, each print numbered at lower left out of editions of 500, and signed at lower right in pencil, by the noted French 20th century impressionist painter CHARLES BLONDIN (1913-1991)...

Oil on canvas laid in recent times on wood panel, 19 3/4" by 15 3/4", unframed, the subject three Roman women watching from an exposed cliffside residence as they search the sea below for the ships of loved ones returning home. This is after an 1895 work by well-known, important, English Victorian artist LAWRENCE ALMA-TADEMA (1836-1912), titled "A Coign of Vantage". This is not painted as finely as the original, to be sure, but the artist was moderately skilled. There is stable craquelure...

The work, on panel, measures 12" by 15 1/2" (14 1/2" by 18" simply framed). The scene could be Hawaii or the Caribbean; hard to tell. The impressionist palette, and especially the various shades of blue, make for an appealing painting...

One of two works in my shop by apparently the same artist, (acquired at different times---the other JB01670): a watercolor on paper, 10 3/4" by 7 1/2" (17" by 14" in its simple green frame), signed illegibly (faint, at lower right), the subject a Spanish (most likely) church tower, the foreground dominated by impressive arches and columns. I have included three photos of the faint signature and leave it to the viewer to try to decipher it...

Armenian watercolor painting of the famous, sacred snow-covered mountain, Ararat, signed in Armenian at lower right. The work measures 11 1/4" by 16" (14" by 18 3/4" in gold frame). The work likely dates from about 1970 through 1980 or so. It is framed behind non-glare glass, which tends to blur detail. Condition is excellent. Armenian-speakers, please contact me if you are able to make out the name.

Oil on canvas painting of a street scene, presumably in Israel, 16" by 11 1/4" framed, signed at lower left "Moshe M.". This does not appear to be by Moshe Mokady, the best known artist with whom that name corresponds closely. Nevertheless it is a competently handled work in excellent condition.

Oil on canvas still life of white flowers in a vase on a table top, a decorative curtain at left, 30" by 25", unframed, signed at lower left and inscribed there "For Mother & Dad", by the listed California artist EUGENE DUNLAP (1916-1999). Dunlap studied with the likes of Jack Wilkinson Smith, J. Mason Reeves and Nell Walker Warner. An exhibitor at the Golden Gate International Exhibition in 1939, he for a good part of his life was a part of the Laguna Beach art scene...

A watercolor painting of a fountain on an elegant seaside or lakeside property, 8 1/2" by 6" (12 1/4" by 9 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by listed Swiss artist JOSEPHINE VERNAY (1861-?). Vernay's birth/death dates are suspect, or possibly confused with those of her brother, artist Francois Joseph Vernay; one source lists hers as 1864-1950, the same as her brother's. My brief net research has failed to turn up a painting dated after 1918...

A late 20th century watercolor painting , 10 1/2" by 14 1/2" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 18 1/2" in gold framing, the scene three figures in front of a walled house, the figures with loads carried on heads or in traditional pole baskets. There are two red chop marks at lower right. On the reverse is a rubber stamp of Suvida Frame, and Thai lettering. The poetic work is clean and highly decorative. Allow for reflections in a few images.

Lithograph on paper of a clipper ship, 12 1/4" by 9 1/2", unframed, signed by the noted marine illustrator, painter and etcher/lithographer GORDON HOPE GRANT (1875-1962). Grant was born in San Francisco but is associated with the northeastern part of the country, his marine paintings and lithographs now eagerly sought out by dealers and collectors.
