Watercolor on paper, 8 1/4" by 3 7/8", (14 1/4" by 9 1/2" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa late nineteenth century (1890's), showing the famous Piazza San Marco in Venice. This is a highly detailed little painting; note the young lady and her mother at left foreground, feeding the pigeons, and the dapper man at left with his cane and top hat; and the ornate streetlights at right. Most likely this was a piece executed for the tourist souvenir trade, Venice being on the Grand Tour trail...

Old watercolor painting of ducks under a tree by the side of a lake or river, 11 3/4" by 18" (25" by 31 3/4" framed), signed at lower left by artist CONSTANT ARTZ (1870-1951). The poetic work dhows the birds taking refuge under a tree as a storm is perhaps approaching. Indeed, written in old hand on the backing is "The Storm" (probably not by the artist himself). The sky looks grayish and overcast and the leaves appear to be moving in a stiff breeze...

Thanksgiving Day Parade by Cynthia Erdahl oil on canvas

PAIR of gouache paintings of Italy, one apparently showing the island of Ischia in moonlight, at the entrance to the Gulf of Naples, the other a coastal scene of the mainland, neither signed, circa 1900. The Ischia work measures 6 1/2" by 9 3/4", the other 7" by 10 3/4" (12" by 14 3/4" and 12 1/2" by 16" framed----the frames slightly different). Such paintings were popular souvenirs that went home with Grand Tour visitors at the turn of the century...

Etching of an old style bridge spanning a small body of water, signed in pencil at lower right and signed in the plate there and dated 1962 by well listed Hungarian artist ISTVAN BALDIZSAR (1897-1984). The print, measuring 5 1/2" by 10" inside the mat, 14 1/4" by 19" simply framed, has a 19th century feel (or, earlier, actually). The artist has sensitively portrayed a familiar scene of his homeland...

In some ways the Albert Bierstadt of Europe, Frederick Kammeyer ( 1873 - 1941 ) painted grand lavish landscapes of Europe's beautiful mountain scenes. The oil on linen offered here renders a rapid stream coursing through a wooded valley against the backdrop of majestic imposing mountains in the background but never out of view. A fine example of American folk art, painted by John Brewster Jr. on natural organic material. The sitter is a gentleman with light red hair and blue eyes. He is attired in a black coat, white vest, white ruffled shirt, and white silk cravat. The miniature is in its original case, the reverse with a glazed window containing a plait of hair atop which is a gold initial.

The condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, bowing, paint loss, or restoration...
