Beautiful winter snowscape by New England artist Albert Van Nesse Greene, 1887-1971 of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania Greene was a member of the New Hope School of painting and a Washington DC artist. This work dates from the1920s and is in remarkably superb condition with fresh and bright colors. It measures 24”x28” Frame size measures 29 x 33“

Watercolor painting of roses in a pitcher, candlesticks and furniture completing the arrangement, an interesting patterned light from the window panes streaming in at an angle, signed at lower right by contemporary artist "T. Williams" and dated 1998. The work measures 20 1/4" by 27" (31" by 38" in wood framing). This is extremely clean and fresh and ready for display. I do not have a handle at this time on the identity of the artist, but the work was purchased in San Diego.

Original unframed etching on paper, 8 1/8" by 12 3/8" inside the mat (the sheet 10" by 14"), signed in the plate and dated there 42, and pencil signed in the nearby lower right margin by the noted American printmaker LUIGI LUCIONI (1900-1988). **ONE OF SEVERAL PRINTS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**, this is no doubt a Vermont landscape scene, as Lucioni's prints largely deal with the classic mountain scenery, barns and farms of that rural state...

A watercolor painting of pine or cypress trees on the coast, perhaps a place like Carmel or Santa Barbara, measuring 14 3/4" by 18 3/4" (20" by 23 1/2" framed). The work is unsigned, (I have opened it up to peek inside, no writing anywhere) and judging from the framing it could date to the 1970's or 1960's. The artist used quality Arches paper (see blind stamp of same). The painting is clean and problem-free; over the years it has slipped inside its mat so will have to be probably re-affixed.

It measures 36" by 48" (slightly more in its frame), is signed with the artist's distinctive early signature l.r. and is titled "View of Sea". A gouache on paper painting of a traditional Russian church, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (16 3/8" by 13 1/4" in simple light simulated wood frame), not apparently signed but with a few penciled words in Russian on the reverse side. Nicely executed by a talented hand. Note the four pointed "Christmas star" at upper right. At lower left corner there is a diagonal crack in the paper, not a significant issue.

Original 19th Century albumen photograph by Jean-Pascal Sebah (1872-1947) of the New Hotel in Cairo. Circa 1888-1895. Titled l.l. Signed in the plate l.r. Jean-Pascal was the son of Pascal Sebah (1823-1886) and took over the family studio in Constantinople in 1888. The studio specialized in scenes of Egypt and the Middle East.

American Artist Leon Gutmann born in New York and studied with many of the abstract Artist including those of the Students League. He was personal friend of the artist Hans Hoffman and also showed with Max Kassler. Gutmann studied in France after being educated in his Native New York, after WWI. He met the French Artist Jean De Botton, in 1950 who introduced him to his circle of painters and influential to his work.

The sitter is identified in a copy of a letter dated August 3, 1905, from Seth Mendell to William C. This brushstrokes, size and subject matter of this particular example is very typical of the artist's work; I will stand by its being "a Merriam"...
