The highly impressionistic American oil paintings of Anthony Thieme, noted Cape Ann, Massachusetts artist, are among the most sought after works in today's auction scene, some bringing prices well into the mid five figures or higher. Those works are typically scenes of Rockport, Gloucester, Florida and far=flung locations such as Italy and Central America. It is rather less known that Thieme in his earlier years worked in creating stage designs...

One of a number in my shop inventory, this is a fresh and clean example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color photolithographs issued for collectors over a period of decades. This example, published in 1961 in an edition of 750, is signed in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed blindstamp in lower left margin. The title is "The Shower". The print measures 17 3/4" by 22 1/2" inside the mat and 26 1/2" by 30 1/2" as framed...

A very interesting portrait miniature of a gentleman. Done in watercolor on organic material, it shows a half length naive depiction of a man posed with his hand in his waistcoat. The overall "feel" of this work is that it was done in the en grisaille style, in spite of the color in the man's lips, his vest, and cummerbund.

Condition of the painting and simple metal frame is excellent (light areas at the edges are due to reflections off the chamfered glass), with a size of 2 1/4" by 1 3/4".

An original marine etching by the British artist, Arthur Briscoe, measuring 13 5/8 x 7 7/8 inches, ink signed and numbered, 59/75, cat: Laver 25. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast...

20th century copy of an earlier sculpture of Washington by J.A. Houdon 1741-1828. Jean-Antoine Houdon 25 March 1741 – 15 July 1828) was a French neoclassical sculptor.

A rare c1835 American miniature by Mrs. Samuel Richardson (1790 - 1852), nee Schetky. It took quite a while, using various lighting settings and filters, to finally discern the almost illegible S (?) Richardson signature along the extreme right. That led me to one of the very few examples of her miniatures, one of which is in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City, MO), which confirmed my interpretation...

A highly decorative and good-sized painting on canvas of a vintage motorcycle, painted in a Pop Art style. The work is unsigned and probably dates to the past twenty years. It was painted by a competent artist with training. Unframed, the work measures 30" by 30". Will add an interesting twist to your contemporary interior. Very clean and wall-ready.

There's also a violet colored rubber stamp on the back in Russian that is hard to decipher (probably an export stamp)...

This is a powerful study of a man, in pencil, chalk, and gouache, signed at lower right by artist ROBERT SPRINGFELS (1911-1984). The drawing is on paper laid on Masonite. Measurements are 28 5/8" by 22 3/4" and a 1 1/4" wood frame with considerable character and patina. There is a printed out note on the reverse which states that the artist exhibited at the Butler Art Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio in 1965. Springfels was the original set designer for Cecil B...

A pastel drawing of autumnal aspen, titled interestingly "Quakies" (after the distinctive way that aspen leaves turn in the wind) on small reverse label, 20" by 16" (22 1/2" by 18 1/2" framed), signed at lower left by noted Nevada woman artist LUVERNE LIGHTFOOT (born ca. 1943). A printed piece affixed to the backing provides a little biographical information but her website describes fully her talents as an artist, teacher, and author of instructional books in the pastel medium...

An oil on canvas painting of a young prince or son born of a noble family, 30" by 24 3/4", unframed, unsigned. The boy's face to my eye reminds of Goya, so perhaps this could be of Spanish origin (though, "FRANCE" is written on the stretcher in modern hand). The painting was relined sometime in the mid 20th century. There are some scratches at upper right which appear as white marks in the photos, some minor edge losses at lower left, and there is an even craquelure over much of the surface.
