Finely detailed distant buildings and trees complete the charming Italian scene...
A fantastic Clarissa Peters (Mrs. Mose B. Russell) mourning painting of a baby and toddler. Peters chose a simple palette of white and bluish-gray to emphasize the ethereal and ephemeral nature of the painting, reserving the use of colors to the hair, lips, and eyes of the subjects. Known for painting children, Peters' mourning paintings are scarce, and double mourning portraits are exponentially rarer yet...

A fascinating Polychrome with Gold Oil Painting on Canvas "LIGHT AT THE END OF THE PATH" by Günther SEYWIRTH. Signed by artist. Good condition
Size: 20" x 16" (50 cm x 40 cm.)
This is a monotype (generally considered an original work, the artist creating the art on a glass or metal surface which is then pressed against paper to create the final image---usually only one impression is made, so while some consider this a print, others might feel it is unique work). The artist, Pat Berger of Los Angeles (signed in pencil in margin and label on reverse) has been an active member of the art community in Southern California for many years...

One of two works in my shop by apparently the same artist, (acquired at different times---the other JB01670): a watercolor on paper, 10 3/4" by 7 1/2" (17" by 14" in its simple green frame), signed illegibly (faint, at lower right), the subject a Spanish (most likely) church tower, the foreground dominated by impressive arches and columns. I have included three photos of the faint signature and leave it to the viewer to try to decipher it...
This is a surprisingly good kanji It was done in 1972,slightly beyond Haku Maki's core period for such small kanji. It is the character for Mu or Nothing It is a very abstract depiction of the character, more so than most of Maki’s rendering of Nothing, which he did many times. This image is sharp and concise and it has drive. It has the Maki style and balance:a seal and the bottom margin. The seal at the right is balanced off by the splash at the left

Most likely a scene of the beach at Scheveningen, signed but signature largely illegible, appears to be dated "09," which along with the style of execution would suggest an affinity if not affiliation with the Amsterdam Impressionists who were active during the late 19th century into the early 20th...
