A very fine watercolor of mogul origin depicting dancers at a court of Royalty. Measuring about 12” x 9”, the work has an Arabic script on the reverse side and was from a hand illustrated manuscript before 1900
Anextremely rare and large tile Painting by P. Duboisson after the artist Eduardo Zamacois y Zabala (2 July 1841 in Bilbao – 12 January 1871 in Madrid) was a Spanish Academic painter who specialized in small-scale canvases. He was the father of the French writer, Miguel Zamacoïs, brother of the writer Niceto de Zamacois, the singer Elisa Zamacois and the actor Ricardo Zamacois, and also an uncle of the writer Eduardo Zamacois and the music composer Joaquín Zamacois...
Oil on wood panel landscape in the Netherlands, 13" by 10" (22" by 19" in old, likely original frame), signed at lower left corner by the listed American artist and illustrator EDWIN H. KIEFER (1860-1931). This antique painting features a classic windmill, and a woman classically dressed, carrying a basket, in the left foreground. The late 19th century work is very dirty; a cleaning would work wonders. There is a long vertical crack in the panel at upper left as shown...
Unframed watercolor on paper laid on paperboard, 13 1/2" by 8 3/4" inside the present old green linen mat, painting of a blacksmith hammering a piece of metal on an anvil, signed at lower right with what appears as "A. Marrani". I do not see a listing for this talented artist. The painting has foxing in the background but it is widely and evenly dispersed and is not obtrusive...
Watercolor Landscape with Cows Late 19th Century by artist J W Hill,British 1812-1879, 12x18 inches, frame size 24x33 inches
Found in southwestern New Hampshire is this charming drawing, 7 3/4" by 5 3/4" (9 5/8" by 7 3/8" framed), the subject a lady with a slight neoclassical profile, standing isolated against an extensive landscape. There's no signature nor other information but it would appear to be an American drawing dating to the 2nd quarter of the 19th century...
A rare, historical, early pastel on heavy paper laid to card drawing of a young Zuni indian girl in Arizona, unsigned, circa late 19th century, including the original gold mat, decorated with images of tipis and spears. The work measures 18" by 12" (entire mat) and 12 3/4" by 6 1/4" inside the mat. Sadly, the old antique work has been damaged. There is a darkened diagonal stain that extends from upper right down across the front of the face and into the hair...

This is a nineteenth century European painting facsimile, consisting of hand coloring over a photo-mechanical print, the finished product quite convincing and possessing considerable decorative value. The work measures 10" by 7 3/4" (16" by 13" framed). The name of the artist who created the original painting from which this was derived appears in red at lower right, the name "Marqueta" or similar...
Portrait of Mother and Child" (1867)
Oil on board, 14" X 16" framed
Jonathan Pratt was a Midlands artist working in Birmingham. He was an extremely diverse artist painting genre, figure and portraits, as well as street scenes, rural and coastal views in Britain, France and Algiers. He studied in Birmingham and exhibited a total of 279 works there between 1864-1915, the latter being posthumously exhibited...
Watercolor on paper painting of a classic stone castle with figures outside its portals, 14" by 10 1/2" (26 1/2" by 23" as framed), apparently unsigned. This is a circa 1850 work which has survived in presentable condition. There is foxing in the sky principally, as shown, but no large stains. To be sure, there were a lot of anonymous skilled watercolor artists in the British Isles in the 19th century, though this might well have been created by an artist that would be "listed" today.
Circa 1880 American Victorian Eastlake style wood frame with gold fillet, the entire frame 15 3/4" by 17 3/4", the rabbet 10" by 12". The wood used is walnut, I believe. There are a few flaws, as shown, but the frame is sound overall and awaits your favorite 19th century print or drawing. Presently the frame houses a black and white photo of a popular gelateria of mid 20th century Rome, near the Piazza Navona...
Ohio River branch Artist, school of Hudson river school painters, on signs beautiful landscape with Carl’s measuring 30 x 50“ circa 1860 in its original Gilded Frame. Beautiful fresh colors.
A large scale Lithograph Landscape depicting a wooded scene with a River running towards a beautiful sunset. 19th century gilded ornate frame. Measuring 36x48”
The watercolor scene depicts a tent housekeeping camp on the shore of a body of water, with four figures, all African-American, in the composition, making it therefore quite unusual and scarce. The date of execution might be circa 1880 I feel, given the dress and the primitive camp set-up. The work is an historical record of African-American life in the 19th century. Size is 9 5/8" by 13 1/2" inside the mat, 18 1/4" by 22" in the narrow gold framing...

A large watercolor painting, apparently unsigned, 20 1/2" by 28 1/2" (52 cm. by 72 cm.) and 27 1/2" by 36" framed. The antique work has been laid on a thin card, earlier in the 20th century, so if there was information on the recto it is hidden. The fascinating scene contains at least 20 figures going about their business, two horses, numerous boats, and windmills in the distance, and carefully rendered architectural facades. The artist must certainly be someone known. I sent photos to Chr...

This fine old work (9" by 20", 19 1/2" by 31" framed/matted, no glass) is a coastal scene including both steam and sail vessels on the horizon, as well as a shipwreck on the rocks at right, signed lower right and dated there 1888 by the well known American 19th century painter EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (1835-1910). The combination of vessel types, and the shipwreck, (which seems to be rare in the artist's body of work---I have extensively searched the auction records and cannot find another), makes fo...
English 19th century watercolor painting of a view of a small river outside a town, two fishermen at left trying their luck in the sluggish waters, the painting signed at lower left "F. K. Seville". The work measures 12 1/2" by 16" inside the mat (21 1/2" by 23 3/4" nicely framed with hand drawn mat lines). Note the details of the skyline, with its many church steeples. The work is nicely painted, which makes it all the more surprising that there is no listing for the artist. Frame has missi...
A very fine portrait of American Paul Revere 1735-1818 oil on canvas measuring 34” x 29”. This is a lifetime work unsigned
Watercolor on paper, unsigned, 11 1/2" by 19" inside the mat, 20 1/2" by 27 1/2" as framed, the subject a flotilla of impressive ships in a harbor, many of them flying the American flag. The artist is unknown, but was clearly a trained and skilled watercolorist. Judging from the steam vessels I would venture a guess that this would date to the late 19th century or early 20th. It's really a shame that the artist didn't sign it, because I feel it likely to have been executed by a listed or even...
Late 19th century watercolor painting of a religious road-side shrine, probably outside of Rome, an imposing church dome (probably St. Peter's Basilica) forming the backdrop to the scene. The painting is signed at lower left "Conti"; it is possible it is a work of the listed artist Tito Conti (1842-1924) but I cannot say for certain that he was the artist. The unframed piece measures 14 3/4" by 11 1/4". Note the exceptionally fine detail throughout; the traditional clothing of the foreground fig...
***NOTE ALL PHOTOS TAKEN THROUGH TAPED GLASS***Watercolor on paper of a young woman in a delicate lace shawl and pearls, a small floral spray on her breast, measuring 14 1/2" by 10 1/2" (26" by 21 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right with the bold signature of well listed Spanish artist FEDERICO JIMENEZ Y FERNANDEZ (1841-1931). The artist's oils of harems and similar Orientalist subjects have exceeded $17,000 at auction in Europe. He was born in Madrid and educated in art there, showing abi...
Pastel on paper drawing, 6" by 10" (12 1/2" by 17" in its original fine old gilt American 19th century frame), signed at lower right "Stubbs", the subject a man in a small rowboat rounding a headland reflecting in the waters, other boats beyond. This is a scarce, to judge from the auction records, early drawing by the noted American marine artist WILLIAM PIERCE STUBBS (1842-1909). Stubbs is best known for his renderings in oil of clipper ships, these works appearing at the finest auctions of A...

The artwork and the stunning original goldleafed wood antique frame are both in superb condition. Sight size is 12 1/2" by 8 3/4", and the framed size is 22" by 19".
This fine old work (15 1/2" by 20", 19 1/2" by 31" framed) is a peaceful and poetic scene of a house by a lake, mountains visible beyond, the crescent moon above, signed lower right and dated there 1883 by the well known American 19th century painter EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (1835-1910). This is likely a scene from the Adirondacks or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The artist painted from Maryland to Maine, visited Cuba and apparently Italy, and even apparently spent a short time on the Pacifi...

This c. 1877 drypoint on copper measures 6 x 9 inches, pencil signed, cat: Schneiderman-152, III/V, artist proof. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law James Whistler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894.
Antique watercolor painting of five rabbits in a grassy scene, feasting on several peaches, some reduced to just pits. The charming work measures 5 1/4" by 6 7/8" (and the old gold turn of the century frame is 11 1/4" by 13 1/4"). Frame is in above average condition for a frame of its type and period, with just one gold-painted area at left edge where there had been some loss of the design.
Wood engraving on paper, 16" by 21 3/8", 20" by 27 1/2" framed, titled at bottom "THE WAR FOR THE UNION 1862---A CAVALRY CHARGE.", by the famed American artist WINSLOW HOMER (1836-1910). Examination of the reverse side of the sheet reveals that the image was published on July 5, 1862. This is a classic example of Homer's Civil War period wood engravings in Harper's Weekly newspaper, which was one of the most avidly followed periodicals in a now unimaginable age when electronic media did not exis...

….. FREDERICK GARRISON HALL (1879 - 1946)
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Hall was an architect by training. He launched his career as an etcher with a number of pastoral scenes beginning in 1918, following studies under William Paxton and Henri Royer. Through the 1920s, Hall produced a number of compelling works depicting notable American and European buildings and settings. He lived and worked in...

Jean Mannheim has become so popular among serious collectors of turn-of-the-century art that he almost needs no introduction. Mr. Mannheim was born in Germany in 1863 but fled to Paris after being drafted into the German Army. While in Paris, Mannheim supported himself and his art studies at the Ecole Delecluse Academie Colarossi...

Antique 19th Century Italian watercolor painting in the Baroque style of a mountainous landscape with a stone bridge over a river. Presented in cream colored matting and a silver gold wood frame. Image size: 14" x 19", overall dimensions: 20.5" x 24.5".
Watercolor on paper, 10" by 8" (16" by 13 3/4" in a contemporary gold frame), the subject a white house looming above a country lane on which a horse-drawn carriage moves at left. The scene is obviously in the tropics or sub-tropics, there being palms and other exotic vegetation. It could be Bermuda, or, perhaps, somewhere in the Caribbean basin. The work is signed in pencil at lower right "J. Pittaway" and "'24 & '25" is adjacent. I don't know anything more on the work, though googling the...
A beautifully executed watercolor painting of ladies on the shore of an Italian lake, high mountains and a red-roofed town on the opposite shore, signed at lower right by artist "L. Vian". This is likely a scene of one of the famous northern Italian lakes such as Lago Maggiore or Lago Como. The bright light is captured with skill and perspective and color is obviously well handled by a talented artist. I see little information on an artist of this name so wonder if perhaps it might be signed ...
Japanese Geisha Woodblock Print circa 1880 measuring 16x13 inches
Call or email. We have a rare and fine selection of Japanese art dating to 1860
Watercolor on paper drawing, unframed, 15" by 21 1/2" inside the gold mat, the subject two proper late Victorian women with parasols, on a small boat in a lake landscape, towering trees in the background, signed at lower left with what appears as "D. G. Streeton", and dated there 1898. This is a nicely executed work, probably American. I cannot seem to match it to a known artist. It is not the work of Australian Arthur Ernest Streeton. I also thought the signature could be "Streeter", but I...
Watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" (and simple frame 1 3/8" wide), unsigned, the subject a hushed redwood forest obviously in Northern California, the sunlight dappling the forest floor, and a slight hint of man's intrusion in the form of a split wood fence or gate. The colors, handling, and subject matter suggest the hand of important early California watercolorist LORENZO P. LATIMER (1857-1941), but Latimer had many students who painted in his style, (including his son), so we cannot be a...

Original 19th century lithograph "A Scene in Old Ireland", by Currier and Ives, the famous American printmakers. This is a true antique hand-colored lithograph and not a later restrike. The work is framed in a late 19th century wood frame with gold inner fillet. Wood backing with rotary saw marks indicates it was framed after the 1870's. Measurements are 12" by 15 3/4" as framed (margins are ample but might have been trimmed a little in early days). The print is in about average condition ...

A very early watercolor landscape of a thicket and meadow at sunset, signed at lower left corner and dated there 1887 (or 1897?) by the noted Indiana artist JOHN ELWOOD BUNDY (1853-1933). The work, 5" by 8" (11 1/4" by 14 1/2" in frame) bears many color notations on the reverse, likely in the artist's handwriting, giving us some insight into the creative process. The scene is very peaceful and calming, showing us day's end. Bundy was born in North Carolina and came with family to Indiana as a...
Watercolor on paper painting of a lady sitting in a meadow in a rural landscape with a stream, plane trees, and grazing cows, 11 1/2" by 16 1/2" (" by " framed), with a penciled name "Marie Louise Garfield" on the (very recent) mat only. A nicely worked painting, by an obviously skilled artist, though I do not see a listing by this name, which again appears only on the mat, and not in the work itself. The name may well not have anything to do with the artist, who might have to remain anonymous...
