Fine early pencil drawing on wove paper, the subject a distant view of Windsor Castle and the Thames River (favorite subject of so many, many artists), signed at lower right "James M. Hart" and dated there 1855. This is a rather early work of JAMES MACDOUGAL HART (1828-1901) of later Hudson River School fame. Hart's major large scale landscape paintings have reached into six figures at auction, and sales in the tens of thousands are not unusual...

Ottavio Padovanino, Italian, 1582-1634. This stunning drawing is red chaulk and pencil on paper mounted on paper. It is 15"H by 10.6"W with the name Padovanino handwritten in pencil on the paper below the drawing. Verso is written Alessandro Varotari, Verona, 1588-1648, "Le Padovau...." The condition is good with minor foxing and a darkened edge due to framing. It was in a private collection in Chicago.

The artist does not appear to be listed, at least under that name or variants of it. He seems to have used perhaps grayish-tan silverpoint or other unusual medium to draw this on a pebbled paper. One is dated 1966, the other inscribed "For Al". Richman, now 90 years old, has an extensive biography, all visible online...

Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

Charcoal on paper portrait of a middle aged bearded man, circa 1880, 20" by 16", currently unframed, signed at lower right with initials "M.J.H.". Thinking this was a work by the major artist Martin Johnson Heade, I sent images to Theodore Stebbins, the Heade expert, who said this was not the work of that artist. So, I offer it here as a decorative work of the nineteenth century...

Condition is good and it has an old label from Folio fine Art LTD in London. The son of an architect, Abraham Bloemaert, known for painting, engraving and teaching, was born in Gorinchem, Holland in 1564...

La Com is known for his skilled watercolors in the 20th century California Scene style...
