Original mixed media (appears to be gouache, and reflective silver and gold paints, on paper) drawing, the subject two figures relaxing at a summery beach, a sunfish small boat off the beach, all bordered by a decorative modernist border with innumerable artistic shapes and unexplained elements. Collection 30 is one of the many striking prints of ceramics that fascinated Maki from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. Maki’s ceramic prints conveyed the “feel” of the bowls or cups or wine vessels—a sense of how it would feel if touched was imparted to the viewer through his ability to suggest texture in his prints...

Engraving on paper, the sheet 16" by 13 /4" (23 3/4" by 20" as framed), the subject man's cruelty to animals. Watercolor on paper of shrimp trawlers in a harbor, 18" by 24" and about 3" of mat and frame on a side, signed at lower left "R. Hal Burriss". This is a clean, fresh watercolor by a noted American artist associated with Florida and Louisiana. The work reminds a bit of that of Rolland Golden, a popular New Orleans, Louisiana artist who often worked in watercolor, depicting similar subject matter...
Pastel on paper drawing of late autumn trees in a wooded landscape around a pond or small lake, 21 1/4" by 26 1/4" (31" by 36 1/2" framed), signed at lower right in all capital letters "CLAUDE REME". I don't see a listing by this name so the work stands on its own decorative powers, which are significant. There is a lot of atmosphere in this quiet scene, and the piece is big enough to power a wall on its own. Condition is excellent...
A well-painted oil on canvas (laid on board), 19 1/4" by 25 1/4" in later silvery-gold frame, signed at lower left "Lillian Reynolds" and dated there 1953. The scene is the timeless, shifting sands of the California desert, likely in the Palm Springs region. There does not appear to be information on an artist by this name, but that does not mean that she was not talented. There are a few light surface scratches and light soiling naturally accumulated over sixty plus years...
Richly impressionistic painting on canvas of a small pond surrounded by autumn foliage, 9" by 12" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right by contemporary California-based artist RON McKEE (1931-) and dedicated on the stretcher and dated there 1987. McKee is a popular impressionist, his body of work including landscape, coastals, floral gardens and European Mediterranean ports. This work is fresh and clean and absolutely wall-ready in its gold framing...
A colorful original work, NOT A PRINT, the subject four palms at the beach, signed at lower left margin in pencil by noted California contemporary artist SALLY HUSS (1940-). The work, art itself 15" by 24" and 23" by 32 1/2" as framed, is typical of the artist's output----always colorful in the extreme, and whimsical, the subjects landscape, florals, or fantasy. Her designs are often available as prints or on merchandise, but original works are more scarce. Condition is excellent.
One of an identically framed pair of Currier trotter horse prints in my shop, this example, "The Grand Horse ST. JULIEN, the 'King of Trotters'." (measuring 11 1/2" by 14 1/2" inside the mat, and 19" by 23" framed), is in very good condition. The print is after a painting by the noted American artist Scott Leighton. I have not examined it out of the frame but for the most part, the kinds of problems that most Currier and Ives print acquire over time are not present...
This is a fine print on a puckery, soft, Japan-like very delicate paper, the image featuring an obviously Orientalist figure and a greyhound-like dog. The print is after the original 1865 painting by the artist, that painting having been offered at Sotheby's auction in 2009. JEAN LEON GEROME (1824-1904) was a major French academic painter and sculptor and educator of legions of artists in the 19th century in France. J-10 is an exciting example not only of Haku Maki’s depiction of Chinese characters but also his use of a hard gold-edged board (instead of simple single or multiple sheets of paper). In the last year of Maki’s life, Daniel Tretiak tells us, he was ill but continued to work. He did lithographs on shikishi board, which was a hard board covered in white rice paper. The back was yellow with a small design in gold and the whole board is gold-edged. These words apply to J-10 as well. J-10 meas...
