Oil on canvas still life painting, 16" by 20" and 22 1/2" by 26" framed, the subject several ceramic objects, including an oriental figure, an elephant, and a lustrous plate. The painting is signed at lower right "Elsie Crosam" or "Crosom", "Creson", or similar. The piece would be an excellent practice work for a budding restorer as there is a major rip in the center, as shown; or you might buff up the frame a bit and use it with another painting. There is light wear on it.

A vintage, circa 1940 lithograph print of a man's head, pencil signed at lower right margin "Barsick" and "imp." appears in pencil at lower center (meaning, artist printed it himself/herself). I do not see an obvious listed artist with which this signature might correspond. The piece measures 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" inside the mat and 17 1/2" by 14 3/4" in simple black strip frame. There is significant heavy foxing in the margins which could be minimized with new mat...

[NOTE: I think my late husband Daniel Tretiak wrote this in 2007, after he got this site up and running.]
Daniel Tretiak has written a book, The Life and Works of Haku Maki, the important Japanese printmaker of the second half of the 20th Century. Maki toiled alone most of the time between 1960 and 2000. His output was substantial, most of it was cool, crisp, elegant. An example is shown above...

A colorful little original oil painting on canvas, not stretched but laid simply behind a hand-made paper mat then placed in a colorful decorative picture frame, no glass, 9" by 7" as framed, signed at left by artist and dated there 1996. No doubt a tourist art piece, it is quite charming, reminding of Haitian and other Caribbean folk art. Condition is excellent.
