(ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**), gouache on paper, (12 3/4" by 6 3/4"), and 1 1/2" wide frame, signed boldly at lower left by the well listed Italian artist GIOVANNI BATTISTA (1858-1925). This is a panoramic coastal scene, a common subject of the artist, who painted mostly scenes of Naples, Venice, the Amalfi coast, and Vesuvius. The painting is in excellent, fresh condition. Works by Battista are offered regularly at auction, where they can bring into the thousands.

Lithograph on paper, unframed, the sheet 13 3/4" by 17 3/4", pencil signed at lower left and dated there 1949, and signed again in Hebrew and dated 1949 at lower right in pencil, by the noted Russian-born Israeli artist MIRON SIMA (1902-1999). According to a Wikipedia listing, Sima was born in Czarist Russia shtetl in 1902. By 1921 he was in Odessa, Russia for art study, and the following year saw him in Dresden, Germany...

Monotype, 10 1/4" by 13", as framed 14 3/4" by 17 1/2" (a monotype is a unique work of art made by pressing against paper the still-wet ink or painted design which the artist has placed on a glass or metal plate), signed at lower left in pencil and dated there 1987, by the important and still highly underrated Swiss-California modernist HANS GUSTAV BURKHARDT (1904-1994). By the highly important German impressionist and expressionist artist LOVIS CORINTH (1858-1925) is this soft-ground etching, 9" by 6 1/2" inside the present mat, the size as framed 20" by 15 1/2", titled "Portrait of Hermann Struck", signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right margin and by the printer Heinrich Wetterroth at lower left margin (along with other difficult to decipher information, written in fine pencil), and dated in the plate at upper right "1911"...

Circa 1940's vintage period original lithograph print of the famous Alamo fort in San Antonio, Texas, pencil signed in the margin at lower right and dedicated "To Sally & Stan--M. Crittenden", and titled at lower left "The Alamo". The work measures 12 1/2" by 9 3/4" inside the mat, and 18 1/2" by 15 1/4" as framed. I have opened this up to take a peek inside, and have found that the mat is permanently affixed to the margins of the print...

This is a folky painting of someone's favorite St. Bernard dog, circa 1870's or 1880's (ONE OF TWO SUCH WORKS IN MY SHOP). Measuring 21" by 16" on the original very old stretchers and 12 1/2" by 12 1/2" (and 17 1/2" by 17 1/2" as framed), the painting is a sweet and classic rendition of a treasured pet of the Victorian era. Vintage dog paintings are very popular and collectable...

Oil on canvas landscape painting of a traditional home at the edge of a pond in mid summer, 20 1/2" by 17 1/4" (24 1/2" by 21" framed in older gold interesting frame), signed at lower right corner J. D. Prenne or possibly J.De Prenne. I do not see a listing for that name as spelled but will continue to search. The painting is very nicely executed and pleasing to the eye; it's a very relaxing and calming view...

A lithograph poster printed by Maeght, 24" by 16", to be shipped unframed (flat or tube-rolled as per buyer preference), circa 1980's, publicizing the gallery's long and fruitful relationship with the famous Spanish artist JOAN MIRO (1893-1983). Miro of course needs little introduction, as one of the best known artists of the twentieth century, his colorful iconic imagery by now firmly integrated into modern visual culture...

Oil on board painting of two clipper ships in full sail on the high seas, 21 1/4" by 27" (25" by 31" framed), probably executed circa 1970's to about 1985, signed at lower right by the artist, AUSTIN DWYER of Seattle. There is a website maintained by the artist, with a host of biographical information, and images of works for sale, both original and giclee prints. Dwyer was born in Ireland but became a U.S. citizen...

Oil on canvas, 18" by 21 1/4", unframed, signed at lower right "A. Alvarez", the subject a colorful flower stall "La Flor de la Rambla" in an obviously European (Spanish, no doubt) town. The work is in need of a frame but otherwise is ready for display. Presently there is an inner frame remnant but no true frame.

Circa 1865 chromolithograph print "Birthplace of Whittier, The Poet", (Haverhill, Massachusetts), 16 1/2" by 25 1/2" (22 1/2" by 32" as framed), published by Louis Prang of Boston and bearing his blue canvas stamp on the reverse, the artist being THOMAS HILL (1829-1908), the noted English-born painter who went on to work in New England and then the American West including California...

Oil on canvas laid on board, 21" by 34" (26" by 39" as framed), unsigned, circa 1880 I would guess, the painting consisting of a classic Hudson River view with steep hills bordering a river, a boat completing the scenery. There is a very nice luminosity to this particular example, a very nice handling of the light in the leaves of the trees. The painting has an approximately 5" long horizontal old cut in lower portion as shown, not unusual for a work of this age...

Oil on canvas painting of a picturesque old water mill located on a stream in high alpine mountains, 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 38" framed), not signed on the front side but the reverse side shows post-1885 stretcher keys, and pencil writing which identifies the scene as "The Valley of Jen(bach)? Switzerland", and the artist as "Louise Goodman 1914". The artist does not appear to be listed. The scene might possibly have been painted after an original by another artist of the 19th century...

The watercolor is unsigned, 6" by 8 1/2", 10" by 13" as simply framed, the scene tall forest trees and distant mountains; there is either a stream or pathway in the foreground. I'd think it has some age, but probably not before about 1970. The artist was talented, and this will decorate a small wall nicely.

Oil on canvas of a mysterious red cabbage on a string and an orange gourd on a tiled surface, windows beyond looking out onto a hilly landscape, 16" by 20" (23 1/2" by 27" signed "Hernandez" and dated 1995 at lower right. The painting should probably be reframed, as the cream liner is soiled. The painting has some yellowed varnish but otherwise is in good condition.

Oil on canvas painting, unsigned, contemporary, unframed, 24" by 36", executed in retro 1960's and 1970's colors: olive, powder blue, orange, white. If your interior is modern and skewing towards the "Pan Am" days, then this will surely please. It has a few light scuffs and soiling that might be removable with light soapy water--see photos.
