The figures are somewhat heroic, as if survivors. Possibly a preparatory study for a painting, this work's authorship is unknown, but obviously the artist was talented and probably even listed and known. The sheet, 8 1/4" by 14", is seemingly glued to an illustration board backing...

Old oil on gray art board landscape painting, 6" by 9" (10 3/4" by 14" in modern day framing), signed at lower right in red in a tight old hand "O. Farsky" with the "Antwerpen" nearby. At first glance this looks like an American Hudson River style oil, with fine detail, a split rail fence, and the structures in the center left area, which look more American than European. A beautiful pair of miniature portraits, both signed Fuger, painted in watercolors on organic material. In addition, the elaborate frames are made out of this same natural material, something rarely, if ever, seen. The sitters, in 18th century attire, are a young gent and lady posed against a blue sky with foliage and hills behind them.

Portrait of a woman by French artist Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905). Board: 9.25"L x 12.9"H framed 18.5" L x 14.75" w. Henner entered the École des Beaux-Arts and won the Prix de Rome in 1858. He exhibited paintings in the Salon, many now in the Musée d'Orsay. In 1889, he became commander of the Legion of Honour and succeeded Cabanel in the Institut de France. In 1900, he won a Grand Prix for painting at the Paris Exposition Universelle. Excellent condition minor age wear.

Oil on small tabletop, showing a classic old master 17th or 18th century French scene but executed most likely in the late 19th century, 13 1/2" by 23 3/4" and rather heavy for its size, at six pounds. From our European Collection, a lovely and substantially-sized 19th century nautical oil painting of ships in a European port, signed and dated S. Brade 1871. This painting is in excellent condition with only the typical fine craquelure expected in paintings of its age. UV light inspection suggests possible small random areas of touch-up to the sky, but otherwise this piece has survived well in fine original, essentially unrestored condition.

Antique Japanese full six panel painted screen depicting a flock of cranes resting a gold leaf backdrop. Bordered with silk and simple black lacquer wood frame.
