Original ink and watercolor drawing of historic houses in New Orleans, signed at right by artist Jean Johnson and dated there 1968, and titled at left "Cottage, Hoggle Place" or similar. The work is detailed and very nicely handled. I cannot locate information on the talented artist. Measurements are 10 1/2" by 14 1/2" (16 1/4" by 19 1/2" framed). The photos were taken through the old detail-dulling non-glare glass (which I suggest be discarded)...

A pleasing watercolor painting of small boats in a coastal landscape in England, 10" by 14 3/4" (13" by 17 3/4" framed), signed at lower right twice, by listed English artist JOHN MORTIMER. Mortimer painted watercolors in Cornwall, Devon, Sussex, and other parts of the British Isles. The work is in excellent condition. Old backing has a print of a landscape. Allow for reflections in a few photos.

A good-sized watercolor (30 1/2" by 22 1/2", and 37 1/2" by 29 1/2" in present framing without glass), the subject New Mexico adobes in a late autumn landscape, the trees in flaming yellows, backed by surrounding mountains. In the foreground is a small body of water providing a deep blue color to set off the yellow. The work is signed at lower left "J. Van Sant". I have been unable to locate a known artist by this name...

Oil on canvas unframed painting of two chairs and a glass-topped table on a peaceful terrace overlooking an extensive landscape, likely California, 16" by 20", unsigned. The artist is anonymous but his/her work is quite skilled and pleasing. The impressionistic handling of this scene makes for a most decorative and appealing painting. The regular size should make framing easy and inexpensive.

Small (3" by 3") unsigned ink drawing on blue paper (6 3/4" by 5 3/4" as framed), the subject a female figure leaning, an old German script label strip on backing giving the title as "Blumenmarkt in Amsterdam", "Olstudie von Hans Herrmann" ("oil study by Hans Herrmann"----the discrepancy perhaps explained by the label being originally intended for another work by this artist)...

This is a print from the original woodblocks, of the work "Jongleur", 1938, from the series "Le Cirque de l'Etoile Filante (Circus of the Shooting Star) by the important French artist GEORGES ROUAULT (1871-1958). The print is quite small, 2 7/8" by 2 1/8" inside the mat (9 1/2" by 8 1/4" as framed). I believe that this is from the edition published at a later date by the Collectors' Guild of New York, as other examples I have seen are identically framed, and with their label on the reverse...

Oil on board painting of autumnal trees, (California sycamores?), hazy mountains in the distance, unsigned, circa 1930's or 1940's. The work measures 9" by 12" and 11 5/8" by 14 1/2" in old probably original frame. The lack of a signature frustrates an effort to identify this talented artist, who might well be listed. The ornate frame is in good condition save for a missing chip at upper left. Painting is a bit soiled consistent with its age...

Oil on canvas,unframed, 18" by 22", signed at lower right by listed French- Italian modern and contemporary artist NINO GIUFFRIDA (1924-), the subject a pair of harlequins, one dressed in blue, the other in red, in a dreamy landscape with houses, trees, and a small beach on the sea, a point of land and trees on the far horizon...

Watercolor on paper, 15" by 22", signed at lower right in pencil "Denny Winters" and dated 1943, showing a shoreline with exposed rocks at low tide, perhaps on an estuary. The artist DENNY WINTERS (1905-1985) was born in Michigan and died in Maine, but spent time in the Midwest and California in her lifetime. She worked at Woodstock in a WPA style, but later works became abstract, and her full oeuvre includes printmaking...

PAIR of gouache paintings on paper, unframed, each 19 3/4" by 25 1/2", both signed by listed French mid century artist GERARD CABUS (born 1926). One appears to be dated 1967. Cabus was very active in the late 1950's through the 1960's, producing abstract compositions and other works in oil and watercolor. His biography is scant, but it does appear that major Paris galleries in the early 1960's gave him one man exhibitions, and some works have appeared at auction in France...

**ONE OF TWO WORKS BY THIS ARTIST IN MY SHOP** This is a mixed media work on paper, (watercolor and gouache) 8 1/2" by 12", 16" by 19 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right in pencil by the artist "J Cl Imbert". The landscape scene includes a few trees and a small river rendered in subdued colors. Thee primary medium is watercolor but there are tiny spots of gouache, and possibly charcoal in the tree branches, and scratching technique. No foxing or damage.

Unusual watercolor of what appears to be a wagon on the plains, piled high with rocks perhaps, and, even, the skull of a buffalo, signed at lower right "P. PARSONS '96". The watercolor is on paper and measures 8 1/2" by 18 3/4" (15 1/4" by 25 1/4" as framed). The work is in excellent condition with no foxing visible. I do not see an obvious listing for the artist. Found in San Diego area. Recently, on the east coast, I saw a watercolor coastal scene signed in the same manner.

Serigraph (silkscreen) print after a painting by the giant of modern art, GEORGES BRAQUE (1882-1963), 18" by 27 1/2" (25" by 34 1/2" framed), signed in the print at lower left. Braque needs little introduction, as one of the famous names of modern art, who in the early years of the century developed, along with his friend Picasso, the Cubism movement, which changed the art world forever...

Original watercolor on paper painting of the famous and iconic Brulatour Courtyard in New Orleans, Louisiana, signed at lower right "F. W. Steck", measuring 13 5/8" by 19 1/4" inside the mat, and 21" by 27" as framed. On the reverse framing paper is written in black marker "Foyer"/Florence W. Steck/(215)789-0966". Online research has revealed the artist to be a talented woman who was born in 1919 and passed away in 1994...

Watercolor on paper painting of flowers in a short vase in a dish, a piece of fruit and a small book nearby, 11" by 15" inside the mat, 19 3/4" by 24" as framed, signed at lower right by the artist and dated there 1970. I do not see a lot of biographical information on the artist, but he did apparently work in a modernistic style, as Paul Klee or Lionel Feininger inspired semi-abstract or abstract works have appeared at auction in Germany. This piece is in extremely fine condition and is ready...

An early oil on canvas painting, 10 1/4" by 8 1/2", unframed, unsigned, featuring a nocturne moonlight view of Mission Delores in San Francisco. At the time the landmark was a popular subject for artists. Manuel Valencia was apparently fond of painting it as it appears in a number of his works. Large horizontal format painting of Paris street scene with the classic buildings, kiosk, book stalls, and circa 1960 automobiles, signed at lower right illegibly (and there are some initials on the tacking edge as well as something written on the back of the canvas). The unframed work measures 24" by 48". It could certainly benefit from a cleaning to remove fifty years of accumulated light soiling (removing in the process the yellowish cast) but you would not have to do so to enjoy the scene'...
