An interesting late 19th century, antique drawing of woodland plants, unsigned on front, word "Stanyan" on reverse, where the date "Oct. 28th/84" is written in pencil in old hand. The work measures 15" by 11" (slightly smaller inside the pink mat--which plays off the pink flowers) and 23 1/2" by 19 3/4" in frame (no glass)...

An unusual, elegant "embossed relief" print on heavy grayish-tan earth-tone hand-made paper that appears almost like tooled leather, or parchment, featuring in the design organic forms such as leaves, signed at lower right in Chinese characters and in Roman letters by the artist, HA BICK CHUEN (1925-2009) (also known as XIA BIQUAN). The work, dated 1975 adjacent to the signature, is numbered at lower left 26/50...

Acquired as one of a number of works by late Bozeman, Montana artist MARION "MAL" LEWIS (1925-2010), this is a fine collage work of an orange-yellow painted cardboard sphere with overlaid and background cut blue printed paper, undated, not framed (just matted), likely from late in the artist's life. While traveling through Montana I came upon a group of mostly collage, abstract works by this artist, though there is at least one non-abstract work, a New Mexico drawing, that I will be listing...

By the noted Indiana artist WILLIAM A. EYDEN (1893-1982), an unusually good work in watercolor and gouache, featuring the beech trees associated with the Indiana landscape. The partially denuded forest is shown in late autumn, waiting for winter's arrival. Some leaves still cling to the trees in a chill wind we can nearly feel. The painting measures 17 3/4" by 23 1/2" (24" by 29 1/2" as framed)...

Poignant early handmade drawing of pink and white flowers (lilies of the valley and?) painted in gouache within an oval set off by golden mat, the words "BIRTHDAY GREETINGS FROM YOUR LOVING DAUGHTER ALICE" around the central image. The oval measures 4 3/4" by 6 3/4" and the entire work as framed 11 3/4" by 14 1/4". This is a work from another time, when people were less likely or less able to go to a store to buy a gift. Old ink and watercolor drawing of early 19th century men and a boy pictured in an English interior, executed probably early years of the 20th century, signed "O. Krause" and also bearing the word "Copy", 6 1/2" by 6" inside the opening in black glass eglomise style "mat", 10 1/4" by 9" as it was originally framed. The drawing seems to me to be after perhaps an original illustration in a Charles Dickens (or other English author of the period) book...

A charming drawing of a village square and church, in graphite, a little wash, and perhaps chalk, on mellow, soft laid paper, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" (17 1/4" by 13 1/2" in inexpensive modern framing), signed at lower right by the French artist and illustrator RENE ROUSSEL (1885-1962). The artist though undeniably talented, has unfortunately and unjustly become obscure, little known to today's collectors. It took an internet search to find his birth and death dates and assemble a biography of sorts...

A large (extreme dimensions 64 1/2" by 48 1/2"), colorful work I am tempted to call a "wall sculpture painting", by noted contemporary California artist JOHN ROSE. The impressive piece could grace an institutional setting, as indeed many sculptures by the artist now find themselves in hotels and other public spaces and corporate collections. The photos do not give justice to the three dimensionality of the piece, the strips of painted wood layered in complex patterns...

Drawing in watercolor and pencil of a figure staring out at the viewer, 23" by 18" inside the mat (33" by 26" framed), signed at lower right by noted mid 20th century California artist ROGER KUNTZ (1926-1975). I believe this would be a female figure with short hair. She is drawn skillfully in pencil, and finished out with a gray-green watercolor wash. There is a South Bend, Indiana framer's label that likely dates to the 1960's...

Watercolor and ink drawing of a river landscape with ship, bridge and surrounding terrain, 7 1/2" by 9 1/2" (14 1/2" by 16 3/4" in interesting old gold frame), signed at lower left by noted Russian-born American artist JOHN WENGER (1887-1976). The artist was born in Russia, his father a local artist. The young man showed early talent and he was accepted into the Imperial Art Academy on scholarship...

PAIR of original mixed media drawings, similarly sized though not identical, one 14" by 18 3/4", the other 15" by 18 1/2", and roughly 22" by 25" as framed, one featuring the 1982 trial of notorious Atlanta child murderer Wayne Williams, the other the 1984 trial of automaker John DeLorean, each signed by the artist, DAVID ROSE (1910-2006). Rose between the early 1970's and mid 1990's became one of the century's best known courtroom artists, his skills sought after by national tv networks...

Two fine detailed drawings on tan paper, probably mid to late 20th century, one featuring a man with drum, two children and a goat, the other a man seated next to his wife, smoking a hookah in front of a house. Lolo Sarnoff (1916-2014) - The Voyage Of A Surching Heart, sculpture in acrylic. Dated Dec. 1997. Red acrylic hearts applied to a silvered and black acrylic background. Ready for wall mounting. Size: 22.5 inches x 14 inches. Titled "The Voyage Of A Surching Heart." Lolo Sarnoff was a noted sculptor, collector and patron of the arts. At the end of her life she had a home in Barnard, Vermont, and she created this piece for the current owner.

This is a larger (22" by 30", 30" by 37" framed) attractive, mixed media drawing on quality heavy paper, a subtle modern work, the colors and tiny background squares reminding of the popular works of artist Robert Natkin. This work is signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right, and is dated there 1983. A twentieth century pastel on paper drawing of white and yellow flowers in a white vase, signed at lower right with what appears as "Raymond" or similar. The work measures 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the present brown mat (16 1/2" by 12 1/2" framed). Found in Los Angeles, the work is on English paper---I suppose it could be English. The hand that created this was talented and it is a lovely little still life.

An unframed miniature painting featuring amazingly detailed ink and watercolor scenes of 17th or 18th Venice, the sheet 10" by 8", signed at bottom margin by listed French illustrator artist JEAN GRADASSI (1907-1989). Condition is excellent. Many hours of work went into creating this work, which approaches medieval manuscripts and book of hours paintings in its detail.
