By listed Southern California artist BERTHA TOWNSEND COLER (1865-1948), a large, bulk group of unframed works that came from the liquidation of the contents of a Pacific Palisades home, the owners related to the artist. There were many, many works by the artist at the liquidation (see the framed oils elsewhere in my shop), a number of which I procured. Oil on board painting of waves at a rocky coastline, unframed, 15 3/4" by 20", likely by a listed artist but unsigned. The work was executed sometime around 1950 I would surmise. Condition is good and this should fit nicely into an easy-to-find standard size 16" by 20" frame.

Large format Japanese limited edition woodblock print depicting a path through traditional buildings titled in kanji at the lower left "Kashiwabara" (station 60) from the series "Kisokaido" by Katsuyuki Nishijima (b. 1945). Pencil-signed and with the artist's red seal at the lower right margin. Numbered 1/500 at the lower right margin corner. "Kisokaido" is printed in kanji at the center of the bottom margin. A fine etching, titled at lower left margin "The Intruder", signed in pencil at lower right margin by the noted English-born dog artist MARGUERITE KIRMSE (1885-1954). The black Scottish Terrier has discovered several fox terrier pups and is intently staring them down. Kirmse was born in Bournemouth, England, showing early talent in music and drawing animals. She stayed in the United States after what was to have been a brief vacation...

PAIR of etchings of dogs, one a Fox Terrier, the other a Scottish Terrier, each signed at lower right in pencil by the renowned twentieth century German dog and cat and other animal artist, KURT MEYER-EBERHARDT (1895-1977). The artist was born in Leipzig and died in Munich. In the late 1920's he was studying with Thedor Hagen and Lyonel Feininger, and could have ascended to the highest levels of the art world. He however chose to pursue his love of depicting domestic and other animals...

A fine contemporary abstract oil on fine weave canvas painting, 12" by 10" (18 1/2" by 16 1/2" in attractive framing), signed at lower left by well-listed Mexican artist LUIS GARCIA GUERRERO (1921-1996). The abstraction is wispy, airy, and just plain attractive and interesting. Harmonious colors are black, olive green, brown, on a light greenish background, with linen frame liner, a gold leaf strip outside that, and finally gray outer frame...

Unframed oil, on canvas painting, unsigned, circa 1920's or 1930's, measuring 25" by 32", the subject a rousing toast among a group of men in traditional eastern European or Russian clothing, a lone woman watching warily in the background. The painting is very dirty and as-found with craquelure. Trying to establish authorship, I contacted several prominent auction houses...

An example of the 1934/35 lithograph "Ruf Des Todes", from the "Death Cycle" series of lithographs by famous German artist KATHE KOLLWITZ (1867-1945). The sheet which measures 19" by 16" was long ago laid down to a board. Evident past attempts to remove an over mat has resulted in skinning of the paper in the lower portion, and residue from the over mat remains at top. There is a line from the old mat all around, with the paper within that line lightly browned...
